I'd say you're right on target with Mandalay Bay.

Yes,
For your age and your needs/wants, Mandalay Bay is the correct choice. While your pretty much at the end of the strip, it's a better location for walking to other places. The pool is extremly nice, I can't imagine you not finding it so.
The sad news about Mandalay Bay is the gambling is not the best odds, lowest of minimums in Vegas. I'm assuming your on a budget of some kind for a girls Vegas trip. For cheap black jack ($3 tables) try the Excaliber or Boardwalk. For slots and video poker, you'll have a much longer walk.
But I sense your not going so much for the gambling as you are the nightlife and the sun. Mandalay Bay is perfect for that.
You won't find the $5.95 buffet at Mandalay, or the $5.95 prime rib special either. Top trendy resturants are here. For the cheap eats you hear about, you'll need to take a walk for down the strip.
Keep in mind the weather is hot in June. Cabs are not cheap, and a bus ride with stinking construction workers might not be so pleasent. Mandalay bay isn't cheap, is my point. So know your budget.

Vegas Girl,

WELCOME!!!!!!!!!

If you decide to stay at the Mandalay Bay, we highly recommend the show "Mamma Mia". We rate it as one of the best shows we have seen anywhere and that includes "Annie" which we saw in NYC.

Examine Lee's input carefully. It could be the difference in a pleasant or not so pleasant trip.

Either way- good luck and we look forward to a report.

Vegas Girl: Excellent advice in Lee's comments above - you gals have a ball and don't forget to post a trip report when you return. This is how we learn and profit about our favorite hang-out - Las Vegas. Wendell

Mandalay Bay is an ideal spot for your trip. It has a weak location and is pretty expensive. However it does meet your specifications perfectly and is probably the only one with all of your needs. You specified being on the strip. Well, Mandaly Bay is on the strip, but it is on the far end of the strip, far away from other points of interest. I would only suggest it if you had a car or wanted to spend 90% of your time at that one location and not venture out.

Other suggestions....

Caesars Palace - More elegant, older crowd, parties are more tame. Better location and short cab ride to party places.

The Mirage - More tourists, great pool, make your own parties, perfect center strip location, close to everything.

TI - just remodeled to cater to the younger crowd. Pool area is weak. Good location.

Flamingo - great location, lots of tourists, less expensive than the others, very good pool area, short cab ride to party areas.

Considering your situation, I don't know if you really want to count the Palms out. It is not on the strip as you requested...however it is closer to the "center strip" area than Mandalay Bay. Plus the Palms is newer, more trendy, and meets your other needs quite well. The pool area doesn't have as much initial eye appeal, but it can be very fun...especially at night. If I were 24 and in your situation, that would be my choice, hands down over Mandalay Bay. Even if you decide against staying there, it is very worthy of a visit or two.

As for the Hard Rock, yep, it's well off the strip. While it is trendy, it probably isn't the best bet for a first trip.

Vegas girl welcome from me too!

I think you should consider the Flamingo, especially since you're on a budget. It does have lotsa nice pool areas - doesn't have the fantasy beach kinda pool that Mandalay Bay does. But it is a great, great location, right midstrip - you can get to lots of places to party. Not too far from the Hard Rock, and also cheaper places to gamble like Casino Royale and Barbary Coast.

And if you re interested in shopping you can walk to the Forum Shops at Caesars and the Fashion Show mall.

Plus it will be cheaper. And a lot of the clubs have pretty steep cover charges - $10 easily.

I love Mandalay bay and its clubs - but when you stay at a more expensive place, everything costs more - from the cokes to the coffee to the bags of chips. It adds up!

Kes

PS - stick your head out the window and look to the southeast. I'm waving to you across Lake Ontario from Rochester NY! :p
