   2 hotels ????
   2 hotels ????
I'm intrested on opinions here.
Sharon & I have a up coming trip in April. It's only a 5 nighter and we arrive around midnight, so it's more like a 4 nighter, as we'll only get 4 full days in Vegas.

The ground work above is posted, because I'm interested on views of moving hotels on a short trip. We just can't seem to get our act togeather on this one. Here is the reasoning. It will be April and warm enough for the pool hopefully. Here is what we are thinking about.

#1 spliting the trip between a downtown hotel and a pool hotel Green Vally Ranch or Westin. 2 nights downtown 3 nights pool hotel.

#2 spliting the trip between a downtown hotel and a pool hotel green Vally ranch or Westin. 3 nights downtown 2 nights pool hotel.

#3 not risking the weather and just staying downtown without a pool for such a short trip.

One last thing to add to our problem. Sandy my sister will be traveling with us this trip. She will most likely be staying downtown at the Las Vegas Club. We've even thought of doing a cheaper pool hotel on the strip or boulder highway. But if we got to travel downtown everyday, why not be comfortable in a nice room?

Try Sam's Town. They have a nice pool, and rooms. You can just jump onto the freeway to get downtown. I don't remember the Westin having a pool when I stayed there, being it was in the winter I never looked. Opps just checked their website I guess they do. I do hope though sence they remodeled they got rid of the bed bugs that lived there when it was the Maxum.(the reason I only stayed 1 night)

Since you will probably get enough downtown "experience" via Sandy, I vote 3 nights GVR and 2 nights Sams. Tell Sams that you know Suite Daisy, and see what they can do for ya.

If it were me, it would be 5 nights somewhere. I'm not a big fan of check in/check out.

If it's Sam's Town, recommend staying away from the top floor during air conditioning season.

I split a trip between Sam's Town, and The Cannery late last April. The top floor rooms at Sam's Town have higher ceilings enabling the air conditioning diffuser vent to be built into the soffit above the room.

Anyway, i found that it's either a wind storm , or off, with regard to the "climate control".

3 nights GV if you like quiet and the pool. But the pool in April?

On the third day, you could possibly be a little bored way out here.

And two nights downtown to get out and raise some heck.

Is there a need for a room downtown or would a visit or two do the trick?

I think you're long overdue for a stay at Sam's ...and a late check-in just might find you one of those suite deals. smile

Lee - I think you need to ask yourself and Sharon where you like to gamble and settle near those places. From reading all your trip reports, you seem to like MSS best. So I'd suggest splitting your time between MSS and one of the hotels Sandy is staying at. JM2C --Mike

P.S. Wish I was going with you!

This weekend we are going to book the hotel. I'll post what we end up with. My first choice is MSS & Las Vegas Hilton. Second choice is Sams Town and LV Hilton. Third choice is California for the whole 5 nights.
All 3 choices have a pool at some time of our stay.

Well, sometimes things don't go as planned. It seems the broadcasters convention people are staying over that weekend, so as of right now no room at MSS or California.
We forgot about GVR, the location with Sandy staying at Sams, and LV Hilton is just too much driving.
So we opted for Sams Town 2 nights, and Ballys for 3 nights. The Stardust was cheaper, but Ballys came through with a decent 2 fer 1 coupon for Jubilie, so that tipped the scales. Both places have pools so this will work if the weather helps out a little. Even the second hotel works with the mono-rail operating. Sandy has easy on off to Ballys and LV Hilton.
What clinched Sams? When I called the Stardust, (very nice agent) she said when she has guests come in, she always puts them up at Sams. BTW, Stardust was cheaper, but I've stayed in the tower rooms before, and from what I've seen Sams standard room is much nicer.

So now, a question for Daisy...exactly what time did you arrive at Sams to get that great room? cool cool LOL

I'd really be perplexed if MSS would somehow come up with a room for me. I think I will like the change.

One final note, I also like waiting to make reservations. It's sort of like a pot luck supper. You get what you get.

Show up at 11:30 pm out at Sam's .. tell them Suite Daisy sent you. smile

I know what you mean about the pot luck supper .. altho I'm thinking more about pot luck breakfast right now. It is sooooo tempting to call and wake up JMT this morning ...and mention that I've never had a FatBurger breakfast. laugh Nah, we wore him out yesterday, so I'll leave him in peace.

Daisy, you wouldn't be sorry for having that breakfast at fatburgers!
We should get to Sams just about midnight! It's going to feel kinda strange staying at Sam's and not knowing one bartender in the place. This will be a very different trip for sure.
One thing I am sort of worried about....Sheplers! Sharon loves the place and staying at Sam's it could be dangerious! Actually it's kinda neat, she shops I gamble, we both spend about the same amount, but in the end she has something to show for her efforts! LOL

I think that's great Lee. 5 nights at hotels that aren't on your normal list. I think that you will like your change. And it should make your experiences and trip reports that much more fun.

I think the broadcasters will keep the LV Hilton and the monorail busy.

When I used to make reservations at Sams Town, I often found that the mini suites were priced in a reasonable manner. And I'm not sure what a minisuite is at Sams. It may just be a atrium view with a hot tub. The prices of the mini suites were usually about double that of a regular room. And regular rooms were pretty cheap. Somehow, I think Daisys room was a little more than a mini suite.

JMT,
I used to stay at Ballys all the time, way back when. It was never VP friendly (back then I was mostly slots), but I always liked the rooms.
Sams is gonna be real different. I ain't really looking for anything fancy. Clean and comfortable is fine. I'm more worried about the first evening being able to content myself in a large casino that I really only explored a little bit. I was suprised they offerd me casino rate to be honest. I hate the 8 coin vp machines at the bar. and my daytime experiances have been filled with a lot of kids running around the place near the movie theaters. I generally stay away from that end of the place, for that reason. The gritty 2nd floor is probably where I'll end up! LOL

Have you thought of a day for dinner? We are looking forward to seeing you this trip, if you have the time.

Regardless of the two you end up with...I love to split my stay between two hotels, if I'm staying more than three nights. Some would say it's a hassle to change hotels, but when we do this it seems like we are on two different vacations. smile We often stay downtown two nights, and somewhere else two nights.

Susan, I'm really not looking forward to the move, I feel like I never get settled in on move trips. But what I think I like is that while I'm staying on an offer from both properties, I don't feel like I have a real gambling obligation to either one. I'm perfectly happy paying the low rates, and I know I'll play enough to get them sent out to me again. I just won't be on the treadmill to keep my comp status intact like I do when I'm downtown at MSS or the California.
As a matter of fact, this might not be such a big gambling trip as most of mine have been lately. For a refreshing change, I won't be running 3K a day through a VP machine....it just might be nice! smile

Two or more hotels in one stay was never my cup of tea. I've met many people that do like it and I can understand why. I guess I'm too darn lazy and I really HATE standing in line to check in.

Good news, Lee, the movie theater wasn't open when I was at Sam's in February.

You can see exactly what the suite situation is at Sam's website ... plug in your dates and check the rates, you might find it worthwhile to upgrade. The full rate for the "A" suite is $99 on most weekdays, and the "B" suite goes around $129. I didn't both to check on the top tier of suites<g>.

As for moving around .... LOL, I had to stop and count on my fingers, but I was in 5 different lodgings in the last 12 days. I'm so used to living out of suitcases that it really wasn't a big deal.
