Quidam is a Latin word for “the anonymous passer-by". Quidam is also the name of Cirque du Soleil’s first pay-per-view special.

If you have never seen a Cirque event, or have been a fan after seeing Cirque’s performances in Las Vegas, treat yourself to one of the greatest visual events of your life. A magical mysterious and majestic display from this non-traditional circus troupe.

On Pay Per View. Check local listings with your cable or satellite TV provider.

Program begins running on PPV - Sunday August 1st and airs continuously.

Mark: Thanks for the post. I saw Quidam in NYC in April of '98. I didn't think it was as good as Mystere or O, but it was a good one, IMO.

A little more info:

This show begins running this Sunday. The PPV fee to order it is $19.95. That price seems a little steep, but Quidam is currently NOT available at your local video store, but instead is premiering on PPV.

Quidam will be released on VHS a few months from now and will sell for under $30.

Mark, I saw this listed on the pay per view channels for tonight. I might watch it but I'm not sure yet. I don't think it will be near the same as seeing it in person.

I just finished watching this special. What a great show. I don't know how they do it, but Cirque du Soleil is the best. I really want to see this performance in person. On tv it just isn't the same, although it was terrific to watch.

John, You're right. It isn't the same on TV as it is in person. I saw it in person from the front row. And I've seen bits and pieces all day long on pay per view. As you've hears a gazillion times, any Cirque production is great from any seat, but various seats give various perspectives. Sitting on the front row, I did not appreciate the under the floor lighting.

What you may not realize from the TV show is that it is done in a very small tent out in a parking lot. The seating area is only about 20 rows deep. It's a very up close and personal show. Even the highest heights, are not all that high.

A huge advantage of the video version is that it is taken from all the possible angles, and probably spliced in such a way to give the best perspective for any given act. The disadvantage is that several different things are going on at any given moment, and the camera is only showing you one view at a time.

I suspect the show has about 3 hours worth of acts. They only use about 2 hours worth of act in each live performance. I think some actors get certain days off, and they use other acts to fill in. Sort of a rotating basis. When I saw it, they did not have the little Chineese girls in Tin Man uniforms. I specifically remember seeing the props they use for sale in the gift shop tent, and wondered how it would be used in the show. They never showed up. From talking to other people who saw it live, there were lots of differences in the segments we all saw.

I'm glad I saw it live. And the new Cirque show will be coming to Dallas next year, which is kewl. I'll probably buy the video of Quidam when it comes out, just because. But it was a completely different show than what I saw live.

Joe, the one thing that came to mind while I was watching it was that I knew there was more going on than the camera could capture for the viewer. There are so many things going on at once you really need to pay attention when you see the show live. You are lucky living near a place that the show will come to. Nothing comes to Canton except over the hill football players and the Dallas Cowboys-- to play the Browns on Monday night.
Want me to get you LT's autograph?<G>
We are waiting to see if there is a policeman that wants to make a name for himself and bust LT in his hotel room.
