The "other" working impressionist in town, Bill Acosta, continues to improve the staging of his show at Luxor.
Bill has re-aligned some of his material, putting certain bits closer to the top and others closer to the closing of the show, making the presentation of a lot of it more effective.
His phrase-trade duet between Johnny Mathis and Tony Bennett on "How Do You Keep The Music Playing" is one of the best pieces being done by any impressionist. It should go down in showbiz history as one of the classic pieces of material. The voices and mannerisms are the two great vocalists to a "t."
He has also had some of the dancers’ numbers re-staged, replaced the hokey sets and props with a little more upscale stage dressing, and added a male tap dancer, Jay Fagan. At one point in his own solo spot, Jay almost steals the show.
Bill’s impressions are so good, it was an injustice to ensconce them in the poor staging that was the original presentation.
Now the setting is much more befitting the talent of the man. Kudos to wife and producer Jeanne Bavaro for knowing when and how to fix it.
