Danny Gans took Las Vegas by storm when he opened at the Stratosphere several years ago. Then he signed for big bucks at the Rio. Next year he'll move to the Mirage for even more money (10 million ?) into a showroom built just for him.
In the meantime, about a year ago the Luxor brought in impressionist Bill Acosta. He's no Danny Gans, but has done well enough to remain in the Luxor's "second" showroom playing to decent size crowds on most nights.
IMO, the Luxor's poor "strip" location, along with the not so easy to find escalators leading to the attractions upstairs has actually hurt this show.
Now another "unknown" impressionist will soon join the Strip's Entertainment scene.
Andre-Phillippe Gagnon -
In only a few years, he has become one of the most well known and in-demand Canadian performers in the world. He not only reproduces the voice, the intonations, and the gestures of those he imitates, he goes much further, and becomes that person. Gagnon always puts his characters into humorous situations not only to make us laugh but to make poignant statements about lifestyle and culture. Sound familiar ?
While performing, Andre creates moods and atmosphere, recreates situations and throws his audience directly into the action. His show is a series of fantastic fireworks where the spectator is spellbound, hoping the bright lights will never go out.
Canada's Corporate Entertainer of the Decade, A vocal chameleon, and much much more. Countless impersonations combined with his award winning presentation and written comedic score produces a symphony of some of America's favorite personalities all in the same evening.
Featured at Montreal's Just for Laughs, four weeks of sellout performances at the Royal Alexandra Theatre and in Atlantic City's at Caesar's.
An impressionist with an eye on the world, Andre-Phillippe Gagnon can slip from Joe Cocker's husky croon to Dionne Warwick quicker than most performers can take a curtain call! From Mick Jagger to Vanessa Paradis, Louis Armstrong, Jean Chretien, and Fred Flintstone, Gagnon's impressions of famous personalities are rapid-fire magic. With an engaging blend of comedy and music, his take on the "who's who" of the world is funny and full of delicious detail. But between the jokes, his amazing voice actually delivers the essence of some of the world's greatest singers.
Following the 1985 Just for Laughs Festival and his subsequent appearance with Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show, Gagnon became one of Canada's top comedians - in English and in French. Today, he is internationally acclaimed as "the world's greatest impressionist."
Andre is scheduled to appear at the Venetian when the showroom does open. The Venetian's Entertainment department hopes to open the showroom soon, even though the Club C2K may not be completely finished.
