   4th of July in LV-do
   4th of July in LV-do
I will be in LV from July 2-6, leaving Thursday evening, for my annual Mom-only (YAY!!!) vacation. Since it is a holiday week, are there any special events going on that a person staying on the Strip should A) try to get to or B) avoid?
I will not have a car and will be staying at TI so that may factor into any plans. I would like to go downtown but am somewhat leery of doing so alone.
Any info would help. Thanks.

Currently, I've heard of no special deals for 2x points and such. But the Barbary usually offers extra points on holidays.

I'm also looking for fireworks displays. I've gone out to Texas station the last couple of 4th of July weekends, does the tradition continue?

I think that you will be okay. Since the Fourth of July is midweek, it will be less of a madhouse.

I checked my sources and can't find any major conventions, special shows, or abmormal events to avoid. I think Ringling Bros Circus will be at T&M during your stay, and that shouldn't be a big problem.

You could easily take a cab downtown late one afternoon, tour the casinos, and stay until dark to see a couple of the overhead 6-minute wonders. You should be very safe staying in populated aras.

I think it would be kewl to be at one of the many places that are very high and have a view of the area, to watch fireworks all around town on July 4.

I agree that you should be fine going downtown. Take a cab to the Golden Nugget and you can walk around from there without any problems. Just stay in the main area and don't detour down any side streets and you will be fine. Good luck and have fun.

Thanks! I will try to get downtown - I always want to but usually end up sidetracked somewhere else. I will try to be high (!) when the fireworks start. Where else might work that's NOT the Voodoo Lounge (ugh)? Maybe the Strat but I bet that will be crowded. I guess I will ask Raoul the pool boy when he is serving me my Strawberry Daiquiris by the TI pool <G>.

Supermom, I've gone downtown by myself on numerous occasions. I've taken the strip bus down to Fremont ST (there's always a crowd getting off their during the day), and I feel perfectly safe walking down Fremont and over to MSS on Main St. I do take a cab on the way back since I don't really want to walk over to the downtown bus terminal by myself, at any time of day but especially at night. I think the cab fare to the center of the strip would run about $15.

It sounds like a wonderful trip! Just use your common sense to stay safe.
BTW - Tell Raoul "Julie says, Hi!"

Last year I sat on the lawn in front of the Hilton and watched the fireworks from the Strat. It wasn't crowded and it was a perfect view. There were people parked on the top level of the parking garage at the Hilton have a tailgate party from what I could see. I'll bet they had a good view. I choose the grass.
