"Star" gazing (not the movie type)
"Star" gazing (not the movie type)
I have been searching in vain for a tour that would take people from Vegas to "dark sky" areas to star gaze. Does anybody know of such a thing? I know they are a big deal in some Arizona cities. Maybe you have to go too far to get away from the Vegas lights!

I've been on the I-40 at night, roughly 100 miles due south from Las Vegas, and the glow of LV lights is quite noticible. I've also seen the glow from Baker, California, on the I-15, at about the same distance. It's almost like seeing the Northern Lights in Canada or Alaska. Truly amazing.

Jim is right.

Driving in from Mesquite on I-15, you see that glow across the mountains from probably 40 miles away.

Jim - tonight we're seeing Northern Lights right here in Rochester NY. Thats not that unusual, we see them maybe once every 2-3 years here.

But tonight I can actually see it from my backyard, through city lights - blood red patches and streaks!

So if you are NOT in Vegas tonight (10/30) and its not cloudy, you might want to go outside and look up

shocked

Kestral they said that the radiation bomb from the sun the other day would cause Northern Lights to happen. Cool

Kestral, I remember seeing the Northern Lights when I was in Montreal years ago. It's truly an awsome sight to watch them shimmer and dance.

Here in Southern California all we've seen at night (and daytime too) is smoke. I'm not anywhere near the fires but I can see and smell smoke as well as have to get rid of the ashes that covered my yard and patio. I talked with a friend in LV this morning and the smoke has drifted over to them as well.
