I haven't seen much on Gordie Brown lately. The Canadian formerly known as Downtown Gordie Brown does parodies of popular artists and songs. He went from Downtown to the Venetian, and has now been demoted to V theater in the Miracle Mile.
If you read my Danny Gans report, you know my favorite entertainment has nothing to do with cramming lots of short song segments together. Gordie was a little easier for me to tolerate as he did not attempt to impersonate. He exaggerated the looks and styles and completely changed the lyrics, all in an attempt at humor.
Gordie started with a song about being bumpped from the Venetian to the V theater and not having a band. So he's playing to canned music in a theater with poor seating and structural poles obstructing some views. To the credit of the V theater, they are changing the seating and putting in seats on risers. Right now, it's a work in progress.
Gordies humor is pretty good. He tries to hit on all cultural levels of music and entertainment, which appeals to all at various levels. He seems to be a pretty loose cannon as far as concentration and focus goes. He reminded me of the old Robin William stand up comedy routines as he tells stories and plays several characters at a time, then changing stories with the same characters.
I think he is much better than the terribly boring Danny Gans. The variety of different song genres and skits and interaction with the audience kept my attention. Most of the crowd was laughing most of the time. I think that since he doesn't have a band anymore, he has been humbled into trying harder.
I don't recommend this show at this time because of the V theater seating. Once that is cleared, I think it will probably be the best show at The V theater. I think it will appeal to most of you. I also don't recommend sitting right behind Roseanne Barr either. She had her son with her, and I'm sure he has heard all of the pork jokes that I could come up with, so I kept quiet. Even when Gordie said some adult stuff, he apologized to her son and said it's probably nothing compared to what he has heard his mother say. Gordie does some adult humor but it's mostly clean.
I also don't recommend going to Planet Hollywood on the night of the Miss America Pagent. WTG, Miss Texas. They said she won. (Insert Miss Nevada joke here) I thought it was interesting to see some of the contestants walking around the Miracle Mile still wearing evening gowns and the banner with the state name on it. I guess if convention goers can wear their access badges to the finest restaurants in town, it's okay for a hottie to wear a banner with the name of her state on it after the pagent in a shopping mall. I talked to 3 of them. I though Miss Illinois was nice until I met Miss Michigan. Dang, she was pretty and perfect and a sweetheart. Then Miss Maryland...fake blonde that seemed bitter. I didn't see the pagent. I suspect she didn't do well. The hotties were nice and VERY young. The part I don't recommend is the security and traffic in and around the hotel.
