Wild Wild West has a comp lunch available at the bar for a $20 buy-in. The chicken fingers are the best of the offerings. Even the employees comment on how good they are. A great deal since they are free with the buy-in.

John,
The buy-in isn't enough. You have to play the $$ through....and those machines are all short pay. According to many sources I've seen, they watch you very carefully to make sure it is played through.
In any case, isn't life too short to go to a dump like that? I have yet to figure out why LVA is so high on this. Since you seem to like the deal maybe you can explain?

Bill, On a recent trip I stoped in to WWW, and while I didn't sample the chicken fingers, we all had a good time. The cocktail waitresses looked a lot better then the VV ones! Not that I notice those sorts of things!

Bill, when you say the machines are short pay, what do you mean? If they are 8/5 jacks, then that is typical bartop vp in Las Vegas. If they are 7/5 or worse, then you are right that they are poor. My thinking was this. If I am hungry and want a beer, and have time on my hands, why not sit down at an 8/5 vp machine and get the beer and chicken fingers. If I buy a roll of quarters, I always run them through unless I would hit a royal. Then I would cash out and pay for the meal<G>

John,
By "short pay" I mean their pay schedules are less than the "full pay" schedules easily found around town. For instance, 8/5 Jacks is about 2% below 9/6 Jacks and 1.5% below 8/5 Bonus (available in dozens of casinos). Point being, anyone who plays there is paying for their comp. As I said, I can't fathom why a supposedly gambling-savvy publiction like the LVA would promote a deal that is bad for gamblers. I read their opinion of it in the last issue and was so disgusted by it that I almost cancelled my subscription then and there. With so many great comp deals available (using full pay machines) I think the LVA should be ashamed of itself.

Bill, I think the LVA has been on a very long downhill slide for several years. I have my own opinion of how they come up with their ratings, but I can't prove it. With the amount of data available on the internet these days about Las Vegas, I don't see how a monthly newsletter with old data and writers with inside motives can survive.
Joe & Bill, I didn't play poker at the bar. I looked around the place and said to myself....would I really want to eat here? The answer is NO. While it was a fun time, even if it was a great deal, we still would have passed on it. LVA, I still enjoy the read, even if some of it is fiction. That top 10 has gotten rediculious! IMHO

I agree with all of you that the LVA is on a downward spiral and has been for awhile. The August issue is my last one, since I'm tired of paying for bad advice and old news. Talk Vegas provides much more information that is accurate and up to date. By the time an LVA issue rolls around, on TV we are long onto other news and other subjects.
Somewhere I read that the LVA will be putting their monthly issues on their Web site. *If* that is true then get ready for a lot of advertising of their new online gambling site. That's where they will make their money--Internet Gambling--and end up giving away the LVA information for free.

Yeah, Veronica, but now even the time in Las Vegas is lagging. The clock on the web page is now 4 minutes behind my computer clock. Could you reset it please?

John: I forgot about those cards. Maybe a phone call would be more effective instead of email. I think I emailed them once with a question and never heard from 'em, so I called and got the answer tout suite.

I like the cards, John. They do four levels of complexity (I've mostly been using level 2) so as you get better you can go to more precise strategies and enhance your odds a bit. Levels 3 and 4 are tough since they use lots of abbreviations and deal with obscure things like penalty cards. Still, they're definitely worth the money IMO.
