   Resort at Summerlin Dining
   Resort at Summerlin Dining
With the opening of the Resort at Summerlin, some of the dining has been reviewed by various Las Vegas news publications. There are only two dining options right now. The Upstairs Market Buffet and Ceres. Ceres has received mixed reviews, but the buffet is getting great reviews. Some publications say it is the best in Las Vegas. Breakfast is $7.95, lunch is $12.50 and dinner is $18.50.
Fri and Sat are seafood nights and the cost is raised to $25, the same as the Rio. The Sunday Brunch is also $25.

We ate at the Resort buffet on Wednesday and both agree that is is one of the best we've had, and I'm including Bellagio and Mandalay Bay. We had the $12.50 lunch that included fresh mozzaralla with ripe tomato, olive oil and basil, baby lamb chops, sirloin steak, hot and cold scallops, fresh marinated cold asparagus, bowls and bowl of fresh strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries, hot and cold peeled shrimp (not the jumbos like Bellagio). Many more items including Asian and Mexican offerings. We will be going to the $25 brunch on Sunday and will post as much of the menu as we can remember. We were shocked when we received in the mail 2 fers for the Resort buffet. Apparently they sent them to those who visited the preview center and signed up for players cards before the opening.

Blossom,
Sounds like a better buffet then most of them! As you may or may not know, I'm not a big buffet fan. But if I was hungry, and at the joint, I might be willing to give it a whirl. For the price, I could just pick, and still get my monies worth.

Blossom, thanks for the info. Your description is very good. The selections sound wonderful. I will have to try this one. I could probably just eat lunch there and be finished eating for the rest of the day. I look forward to your report on the Sunday Brunch.

The recent issue of LVA has listed the lunch buffet at Summerlin as #4 in the top 10. It has bumped the lunch buffet at Bellagio out of the running. It said the quality was comparable, but the selection was much better. The desserts are not quite as good though. Both cost $12.50. Another advantage was that you could accumulate points for their slot club by purchasing a meal at any of their restaurants.

When we visited LV in April, we ate at the Bellagio buffet. I personally thought it was the best I've had in LV. The Eggs Benedict still had yolks that weren't hard boiled. The wood-burning oven pizzas were very flavorful...the seafood and the veggie ones were especially good. The shrimp were plump, juicy and full of flavor--not watery tasting.
If the Summerlin one is just as good or better, I can't wait to try it on our next trip.

Michael, maybe we can do a group lunch buffet in Oct at Summerlin. Of course that would mean I would have to get up before noon<G>

John,
That sounds like a plan. But if you stay up all night, you don't have to worry about getting up at noon <vbg>.

We finally went to the Sunday brunch at the Resort. First, I'll admit that I wouldn't pay $25 a person for ANY buffet, but we had 2-fers that were sent to anyone who visited the preview center and applied for a playing card before the place opened. I've heard they will send 2-fers to anyone who applies for a card now, but it still is just a rumor. The food was supurb. Unlimited split lobsters (about 1 1/4 pounders), large cold peeled shrimp, salmon, sea bass fixed two ways, sirloin steak, prime rib, 7 or 8 different kinds of sushi with proper accompanyments, appetizers such as baba ghanoush, grilled marinated asparagus and leeks, desserts including tirimasu, creme broulee (sp?) that they torched to glaze before they served them, bowls of fresh strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, etc, etc, etc. Of course they also had the usual Chinese, Italian and Mexican offerings as well as several breakfast items. They also served sangria instead of champagne and excellent breads.
The room is very attractive and the service is attentive. All in all, a good time was had, especially by Hal who thoroughly enjoyed his 3 lobsters.

Blossom, WOW! I can only hope that they continue this until I get there in Oct. Hal is my kinda guy! 3 lobsters and he probably debated about having a 4th<G>
Thanks so much for the info. I agree that the price is steep, but since I will be alone in Oct, $25 isn't too bad. Besides, after 4 or 5 lobsters I'll skip dinner<G>

Blossom,

That sounds like quite a spread.

I was going to mail you my Reserve card and I can't find it!

That's too bad Senator, because we are heading out there today. It is senior day and they are offering a 2 fer for the lunch buffet (ok, but not great) and triple points for seniors. I love those triple points!

BTW, we had a rough night last night with lightening, rain and hail that started about 3am and continued for hours. A house was struck on the east side of town causing over $200,000 damage. And we thought we moved to the desert.
