Anybody dined yet at the restaurant Nobu at the Hard Rock? I know the one in NYC is very upscale (read: pricy), trendy, and Robert DeNiro is a partner in the restaurants. The food is supposed to be wonderfully innovative Japanese food. A Chef’s Choice tasting dinner is $70. The menu is a la carte and some of the dishes on the menu are: sushi, sashimi and tempura ($1-$9.50 -- two piece minimum); cold dishes ($6-market price) such as the sashimi salad; a variety of kushiyaki -- two skewers, $6-$9; a number of special hot dishes ($8-market price); soups and salads ($3.50-$13); and a number of entrees. Included in the price--$22-$25.50--are miso soup and rice. Nobu also offers a variety of imported sakes that are exclusive to the restaurants. The wine list includes bottles at prices from $20. Wines and champagnes by the glass are $8-$21.

Veronica, WOW, that is pricey. I think I'll stick with PF Changs. I am amazed at the number of upscale restaurants in Las Vegas getting big bucks for a meal. I remember when the dining in Las Vegas was inexpensive and so were the shows. Things have really changed.

Thanks for the post, V. I haven't been in the HRH since the expansion and would be curious to know if Nobu lives up to its reputation.

Veronica --

I haven't eaten at Nobu (in NY OR LV), but never let it be said that such a minor detail stopped me from giving my opinion! :-)

Seriously, though, someone I work with recently went to Nobu in NY for the first time. This guy has had the good fortune of eating at some of the best restaurants in NY city, and I've had the good fortune of being invited to go with him on many occasions. I respect his opinion on food.

Recently he was told by an important client that the client wanted to try Nobu. There was no hope of getting a dinner reservation (this was one week in advance, for a Thursday night), so they made a lunch resrvation for a Friday. The fellow from my office was not looking forward to the lunch, because he's not crazy about fish (even when it's cooked :-)), but a client is a client.

Well, long story short, he absolutely RAVED about it. He tried various sushi choices, and loved everything he tried. He said that its reputation is well-deserved. And, as an example of the decedance of the place, they ordered a desert that was sprinkled with gold shavings (ala "Goldschlager" liquor).

Again, none of this is based on personal experience, and this was the NY Nobu. In any event, I've been promised a visit some time in the future. Now, I don't like fish, but. . . I think I'll give it a shot!

Mark: Next time I'm in NY, I'll try to stop at Nobu and check it out. Doing lunch there might be a plan!

John,

Those LV prices for Nobu are considerably LOWER than the NYC prices, although lunch is much more reasonable than dinner, and there is an annex, "Next Door Nobu," that is much less expensive, and doesn't feature some of the extravagancies of the original.

You can't compare Nobu to P.F. Chang's. P.F.'s is Chinese; Nobu is Japanese, and uses a lot of fish (raw and cooked) and other expensive ingredients.

Veronica--I'd definitely recommend lunch over dinner at Nobu New York. Cheaper, less crowded, and less attitude.

Dave, the prices in NY are higher because all you NY people are rich<G>
Seriously, just give me Hunan Chicken with Fried Rice and I'm happy. I'm not a goumet when it comes to Chinese/Japanese/Thai/Vietnamese/etc. And, no raw fish for me!

I was actually on my way to Nobu on Sunday but stopped and shopped and then got sidetracked, so we never made it there, sad to say. I guess now it's a toss up between getting to the LV one or the NY one--whichever comes first!
