The Voodoo Lounge at the Rio is now only open from 5 pm - 11 pm, 7 days a week. There is a dress code of collared t-shirt and dress slacks for men and business casual for women. No jeans shorts or sandals allowed. On Friday and Saturday nights there is a cover charge of $10 per person for entry if you do not have dinner reservations.
It seems to me the decision to shorten the hours may have been because it’s not worth it to pay employees if business isn’t good. Maybe business would increase if they dropped those silly dress code rules and that cover charge!
V, The dress code I could live with, but $10 for the privledge to purchase a cocktail in the lounge.....I don't think so! With all the stuff the Rio seems to be doing to curtail business, it's a wonder sometimes to me that the people keep flocking in the doors. IMHO

There were 4 of us last month that wanted to go up to the lounge, but we told them to stuff their $10 cover charge. That would have been $40 just to go up. I agree with V. Since they are closing early on weekdays that tells me that business is slow. Just another case of the Rio screwing up a good thing. Eventually this has to catch up with them.

We went to the Rio once. Wanted to see the free show and check out the Voodoo lounge. Free show was dark, Wouldn't let us go up because we were dressed TO casual. When I'm on vacation I just can't bring myself to dress up to go to a lounge. Oh well, guess they can live without our buis. as well.

I agree with John, I really don't mind the dress code, the view is spectacular, the $10.00 cover is ridiculous, the lounge is way too crowded, and I have certainly had better service from more congenial employees. Anyway, that is my 2 bits worth. Wendell P.S. If you really want a spectacular view of the lights of Vegas at night, try the observation deck at the Strat.
Wendell, As much as I hate the Strat, the view is a good one. Just don't look directly down. Remember the Strat is in a bad neighborhood. I read (I think) in the LVA, that you can acquire free elevator passes from the bartenders. They are supose to pass them out to good customers (I think tippers). For free the elavator ride is great. For a ten spot at the Rio, I'll stay on the ground to sip a cocktail.

Doug, I think there are a lot of people that have the same attitude you and I do. The Rio can do without our business. As a point of reference, I go to Las Vegas 4-5 times a year. Since 1992 I had stayed exclusively at the Rio. There policies on comps and other things kept getting worse and worse. Finally I moved to Caesars this past Jan. The Rio doesn't even know one of their long time regular customers has left them. They are building another tower with 3,000 more rooms. I wonder when the bottom will fall out.
