Well John, I won't be going to the Bootlegger too soon so maybe we should just stick to Annabella's for now.

Joe & I stopped in at the Bootleggar last night about 9:30 pm. The place was kind of crowded mostly with people in sports coats and kewl slack suits/dresses who thought they were upper class. There were no open tables so the hostess asked if we wanted to sit at the bar, she would call us real soon.

The hostess has been working there a long time and she is very personable, nice gal. So we sat at the bar for about 10-15 minutes. Bought two rolls of quarters and ordered a Bud and a pepsi. The bartender asked us to sign the receipt when we got a minute. No charge for the drinks. Gave him a two dollar tip. Table was ready. I cashed out 40 quarters and Joe cashed out 35 quarters.

Menu prices are very high now, imo. Sirloin steak and other steaks $20; veal dishes $18; chicken dishes $15; pasta dishes $10.

They serve some little bread thingies with marinara sauce on the side which was good. I ordered the chicken picatta and Joe ordered Ravioli. The chicken didn't seem like real chicken. Maybe it is but it had a texture of pressed chicken- if there is such a thing. I did not like the picatta sauce and Joe's ravioli was nothing to write home about. And the service was terrible. Waiter was too busy waiting on the "upper class" who kept calling the waiter over to their tables.

So, high prices, lousy food, and poor service scratches this place off my "one of my favorite restaurants" list.

BTW, these dishes are a la carte. No salad or soup go with the meals unless you pay extra.

Gail,
This is the place you had a meet with us one time, correct?
It's a shame, I liked the place! But I guess just like all of Las Vegas, things change, and not always for the better.

Lee, yes, this is the place where we ate at in the private room. It was really nice that night. And the server was fantastic, imo.

What I'm thinking now is -- I could be all wrong on this and will check out the facts later today. I believe the owner is also a Las Vegas / Nevada politician. Maybe she needed to raise her menu prices to support her campaign.

As Will800 insinuated in one of his posts, charging big money for Italian food/pasta is a real knife in the back and especially when it's slopped together.

Gail, thanks for the warning about Bootleggers. I had it on my list of places to try. But after your report I will save my money. You are right that we should stick with Annabellas.
I have always had a problem with paying high prices for Italian meals. There are some many good places that are reasonably priced.
