Vietnamese Restaurant
  Vietnamese Restaurant
A friend was telling me there used to be a great family owned vietnamese restaurant in a little strip shopping center just south of the old Aladdin. The shopping center was torn down as part of the new Aladdin project. My friend did not remember the name of the place and wondered if they reopened somewhere else. I know that this is not much info to go on, but does anyone know which restaurant they were referring to and if it relocated?

Wasn't there a guy on (that other service) that was really into this type of food. I think he even owned his own resturant? Richard something?
If I recall, he wasn't real pleased with the choices in LV.

Lee,

You may be thinking of Richard Chen. He lives here in NC and has a small takeout Thai Rest. in Fayetteville, with a few tables if you want to eat in. After several years of promising to stop by, I was able to dine there several times. Some of the dishes could be made mild, medium, hot, or Thai Hot. I love hot food but the medium/hot was about all that I could handle. One tiny oriental girl came in and kept dousing her food with the pepper oil, and other hot spices that they had.
Richard was the one who told me that I should go to Sam Woo BBQ, since he liked that better. And judging from his girth, Richard knows about food. I remember a Filipino restaraunt in the strip center where Fatburger and Big Mamas Soul Food was located but I don't remember a Vietnamese place in the area. But then again there are a lot of places that I don't know about. But this weekend and part of next week, I plan on taking a culinary adventure throughout the city. Maybe I'll even try one of those goat sandwiches. Or maybe Sue would like to try the all-you-can-eat Sushi Bar. I'll even pay if y'all want to go!!! (Got a feeling I'll be keeping my money on that one)

See you this weekend!!

Gail, thanks for the info. I wrote the names down and will check with my friend and see if anything rings a bell.
I wish I was getting there earlier tomorrow. I'll miss pot pie day on this trip

John and Gail,

I've eaten at Saigon once, and had an excellent meal three or four years ago. I haven't been back, because I'm not in that area too often.

Vietnamese food can be wonderful, with superb soups, and generally a lighter touch than most Chinese.
