Burger Wars- The rest of the story??
Burger Wars- The rest of the story??
As I am getting things ready for the trip tommorrow, I found a sheet of paper where I had written down a few things about the burger chains in Vegas. I know it can be a touchy subject about who has the best burger, and wars have been started over less.
But I will say that I was glad to see the Fatburger reopened accross the street from Monte Carlo on Las Vegas Blvd. It's ironic that there is a McDonalds, physically right beside of it. If I had been feeling better that last day of my trip, I would have stopped in for a bite.
I had checked the local phone book to research the locations of other Fatburger's and found a few suprises. When I had stopped at Texas Station, I saw that they had a Fatburger in their food court. But the addresses of all the shops that I could find, are as follows;
3763 S.Las Vegas Blvd
2845 S. Nellis Blvd
4851 W.Charleston Blvd
4663 E. Sunset Rd.
1301 W. Sunset Rd.
4525 N. Ranch Dr.
2101 Texas Star Lane
If I made an error in writing these down, I apologize in advance.
Now for the first suprise! When I checked for In-N-Out Burgers, instead of addresses that you could try and locate the closest one, they give you a toll free number to call for the closest one. So I have no idea, how many are in the Las Vegas area.
The next suprise was the total number of other major burger chain stores. The final count that I located was;
Fatburger 7
Burger King 29
McDonalds 50
I didn't look up any other chains, but I am suprised that there are that many people that are happy with the national brands. Yes, I do occasionally eat at both here in town but when I get to Vegas, I WILL be trying one of the Fatburger location. If I find JMT, then maybe we can do some more research to make sure that the quality has not dropped any. I'm hoping that they still do the sausage and egg sandwich in the morning, with a big slice of tomato!

PS.
You can tell that I spent a few boring hours in the room, when I wasn't feeling well.

Well Layne,
Atleast you didn't waste your sick time....you where doing reserch for TalkVegas, and that is comendable! <S>
You missed a lot of national brands though, like: Jack in the box, Wendy's, Carl J's the list goes on and on.
Where I live thier are no Jack in the boxes and after the bad press they got because a few people got sick and (I beleive) one died, Ofcourse I was anxious to try one of there burgers. It was oK, but those FatBurgers rule. I'd like to give, In & Out a try, but they have been compared to McDonalds, and that aint a thrill. So as far as I'm concerned, Fat Burger is the best!

I'll second you on In-N-Out. It was the first one that I tried, when the burger war first started. Although, I may hit Fatburger first this time, I would not hesitate in the least to go to In-N-Out, if that's where someone else wanted to go. The place was packed when I went by there several times, so apparently others must like it. But then again so are McDonalds. But I would rate them higher than McDonalds, so Lee, bite the bullet and try them once so that we can have one more opinion added to the list. I'll bring my jar of Rolaids just in case. But I don't think you'll need them.

Lee,

I tried both the Fatburger, across from Monte Carlo and the In-N-Out on Tropicana. Fatburger was breakfast that day because I didn't wake up until about 10:30 in the morning. I guess I stayed up a little bit too late!! It had been a little over a year since I visited the old one in the building that burned up, if I remember right. But this time instead of a "FATBURGER", it was flattened out. I don't know if it has anything to do with some laws in some areas about making sure that things are thoroughly cooked, and I guess the thinner, the faster it cooks. The toasted bun does add a little extra touch, as compared to McDonalds. But on this go round, I couldn't tell much difference between Fatburger and the Inn-N-Out other than the fries. Fatburger has the bigger steak cut fries that I know JMT likes better, but I tend to like the thinner cut fries at In-N-Out. So in this round of Burger Wars I would call it a draw. Both were good but I wouldn't say that either was better or worse than the other.
If you or anybody else comes to NC, I'll take you to two local places that I prefer. At one place they season the meat with several spices, so that it has a unique flavor. But come on down!!! and I'll let you make your own decision.

I still haven't been to either place, but I'd have to give the edge in advertising to In & Out......their billboards use the slogan "that's not your engine growling"...and that seemed funnier as my 8&1/2 hour drive home progressed<g>.

The employees of the LVRJ voted the best burgers to be at Kilroys on Decatur. I have not been there but I would like to try it and see what I think.

In-N-Out Burger rules. It is far superior to Fatburgers...even all the locals say so. Lee, McDonalds can't even touch them. And the fries are the best you can get at any of the fast food establishmemts. We stop at the one on Rte 95, the exit before the Santa Fe, when we are on our way there.

John,

Is Kilroy's a 'fast food' place?

Layne,

I don't think I've ever eaten at Fat Burger and IN & Out on the same trip. I enjoy both burgers. I don't especially like In & Out's fries. Fat burger wins in the shake dept hands down. Also, FB has onion rings.

If I had to choose just one it would be FB.

John,
The LVRJ has been way off base on quite a few things, I don't know if I'd rush into Kilroys.

Jeff, The shakes at FB are great!

Jeff, from the sounds of it Kilroys is more like a Fudruckers. It sounds like they grill fresh meat to order and you have a variety of seasonings and toppings. The article I read about them reminded me of the places we used to go to in the 60's when we were teenagers and they made those great fresh burgers. I'd like to try it sometime.

John,

Our hang out was Jerry's Drive Inn. Their signature burger was a triple decked called the super deluxe. Also had great hand breaded onion rings and curb service.

Regarding In&Out Burger....
Try ordering an "Animal Style" Double-Double. It's not on the menu...has to be specifically asked for. It's very different from a regular In&Out Burger and a nice change. However, I love both versions. The fries could be a little tastier (vbg) but when eaten hot are pretty good.
I'm lucky enough to live where there's an In&Out only a couple of miles away.

Jeff, We had Lujans, Eckards (where the carhops wore roller skates) and Bradys.
I still think a 60's style dinner with carhops would make it around here.
I don't think we had a triple burger, but I know there were double burgers and coneys. Yum!!

Lee,
Trust me....it's not raw!! It has grilled onions, more tomatoes, pickles and is really good.
BTW...there sure are a lot of "Gails" on this board (VBG).

Gail F,
The more Gails the better! I've never met a Gail/Gale I didn't like!

Thanks for clearing up Animal style. A triple burger raw, doesn't sound like something I'd be able to eat, yet alone keep down! <s>

Raw meat makes me wonder if any of the places at Paris, serve steak tartare. (sp?)
A friend of mine went to France to play pro basketball over there, and one of the first things that they put on his plate looked like raw hamburger. He asked if they could cook it first.
I used to like hamburgers cooked rare, but after an old truck driver explained that when you grind up the meat, any surface bacteria gets inside and may not get killed when cooking. But I still like a filet, with a thin layer that is done, but still mooing in the middle.
