   Where to dine??
   Where to dine??
My husband and I will be going on our first trip to Las Vegas Sept 20-27 and staying at The Cliffs at Peace Canyon. I need help planning our agenda on places to eat and things to do. I only have 7:30 reservations for Mystere for 9/25. What great restaurant is within walking distance to this show? Also, if we take a driving tour of red rock canyon, Hoover dam, where should we eat in those areas? Any suggestions on dining and things to do would be GREATLY appreciated!!!

Katy, I'd recommend the Buccaneer Bay restaurant also located in Treasure Island. It offers excellent food, outstanding service and a very nice and relaxing ambience. If you get a window seat, you might catch the Pirate battle while you dine.

Take a look at it on the Treasure Island website under "dining".

In addition to OldJims answer, you will be right across the street from the Venetian. The Venetian has some of the finest dining on the strip. There is Emerils Delmonico Steakhouse. I like Pinot Brasserie and Star Canyon. You'd have to visit the Venentian website to see the whole list.

When I go to Red Rock Canyon, I like to stop at Fatburger on West Charleston. There is really not a lot of unique dining choices out that way. A trip to Red Rock is also a good opportunity to hit little local places.

When I go to the dam I try to find an old local place in the Henderson or Green Valley area. It's pretty hit and miss. Sunset Station or Green Valley Ranch might be safer otpions. It might be a good opportunity to check out the Hyatt at Lake Las Vegas.

Buccaneer Bay is cery good, but wow, Venetian, you must see it, it is a walk over the strip.

They have some of the best restaurants in las Vegas.

Katy,

I'm not familiar with The Cliffs, can you tell me about it?

Any certain type of food or atmosphere you're looking for? On the Hoover Dam trip there's several big casinos on Boulder Highway and one at Railroad Pass. You're also close to Green Valley Ranch which is by far the nicest property out that way.

For you Red Rock trip, go out Charleston and stop at Fat Burger for lunch. Stop at the visitors center and then drive the loop. Stop at some of the pull offs to watch the rock climbers, or join in. Turn right coming out of the loop. Stop at Bonnie Springs for a little walk then proceed to Blue Diamond. Turn left and you're heading back into Vegas. There's a casino and outlet mall when you get back down to the freeway.

Katy,
for dinning we need to narrow down your search a little more, for things such as price
($0.99 to $1,000), dress (shorts to suits), and types of food. And don’t forget atmosphere, romantic, themed, coffee shop, or boofay

Next door to TI is the Mirage and they have a very good restaurant named Kokomos.
It is a short walk from TI.

John, isn't there a tram that also runs between the Mirage and the TI?

Larry, We are up for anything. Pricey, cheap, dressy, not dressy. I made reservations at Aureole because we like fine wine and want to see the wine fairies. I heard the view at the Eiffel tower restaurant is good,& Second St Grill on Freemont St. Someone said to go out without reservations and decide when you are there but others have said the restaurants get crowded. We like different foods and interesting dishes, not just steak and potatoes. Thanks for the advice.

I had heard much about the Peppermill (on the Strip next to the Riveria) that I had to try it during my last visit. I went for breakfast - the decor was outstanding - a fake "apple blossom" tree that branched out with apple blossoms all over the ceiling and prices and food was good. The cocktail lounge portion is definately in order to view. A indirect red lighted lounge circular with woodburning fireplaces in the center. I understand that there is a cocktail waitress in formal evening attire to serve drinks. It looked to be rather pricey - definately a place to take a "sweetie" - this place is certainly worthy of "checking out" Wendell

OldJim, yes, there is a tram that runs between the TI and the Mirage. It is an easy way to travel between the two properties.

Senator,

The Cliffs at Peace Canyon is a timeshare resort located several miles off the strip.

Katy -

I've been lucky enough to eat at a lot of nice restaurants in Las Vegas. I was happy to read that you have reservations at Aureole - IT'S WONDERFUL!! Be sure to save some room for dessert because they're absolutely excellent. They have a cinnamon streusel coffee cake with coffee ice cream, caramel sauce, and a dark chocolate disk which is my favorite. I've also eaten at the Eiffel Tower and thought it was great too. If it's just you and your husband, ask to sit along with window (all tables for two) because the view is wonderful. You can see the strip and the Bellagio fountains. The other restaurant that stands out is Renoir at The Mirage. It's very expensive and will probably take you a good 2 hours to get through dinner, but if you want primo food and incredible service, this is the place. I'd agree with the other about Buccaneer Bay at TI or Delmonico's at the Venetian as good places to go before Mystere. BTW - I've seen Mystere FOUR TIMES over the years and really love it!
