Having returned from Vegas a couple of weeks ago, I thought I might post about a couple of restaurants we tried but hadn't eaten at in the past.
One may be familiar with some of you. It was the Steakhouse at Fiesta on Rancho in Sumerlin. My in-laws were with us and had done some research on Vegas. They found this on another site and it talked about their prime rib dinner with all the fixings for $9.99. Since we had a rental car, we headed North.
Originally I was a little concerned going this far North for a cheap meal. However, it was really a pretty decent room with better than average service and very good food. My in-laws elected to go with the 14 onuce Filets and both were very tender and flavorful. Shelley and I had the prime rib special and it was a good cut of meat, cooked exactly like we asked for it, was tender and had very good flavor. While I'm not sure I'd drive this far North for a $9.99 prime rib dinner, it was a nice change of pace and a good meal.
The second place was a steak house my cousin, who lives in Sumerlin, choose. It's called Flemmings and is on West Charleson. Excellent food, very good service and pricey. Shelley wasn't all that impressed with the king crab legs she got and at $42 for a pound, that was a disapointment. However, the filet I had could be cut with just the weight of the knife. My cousin had the scallops and they were very good and his wife also had the filet. This restaurant serves everything ala carta and, while pricey, isn't as expensive as the high end steak houses on the strip. Total bill was $245 with tip for the four of us and included 5 drinks.
The biggest drawback and what will keep me from going there again, aside from it's distance from the strip, is that it's a big open room that is very noisy. It was just to hard to hold a conversation and Shelley had a hard time hearing most of the conversation.
Once again we made a trip to the Eiffel Tower restaurant at Paris. It was a wonderful meal but towards the end, a party of 30 people came in and they were seated at several tables. They then proceded to have a contest to see which table could be the loudest. We had a table for two and once that large party was seated could barely hear each other talk. It had been a great meal up until then. Fortunately, we were almost done and had just been servce our souffles when they started in with the noise.
Of note, the filet that we liked so much at NASCAR Cafe is no longer on the menu. Shelley ordered the ribeye and after all the orders were in was told they were out of it. She ended up just eating a mediocre salad and it soured our opinion of the place. Chances are we won't return.
We also stopped in Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville. What can I say about this place. It's nothing more than an overpriced theme restaurant but the food is good. Shelley likes the theme and the food is good. They also serve some frilly fru fru drinks that Shelley likes. I'm sure we'll be returning here for lunch at the very least. It is nice to have a restaurant that isn't afraid to cook my burger medium rare. Some places insist on cremating that darn things ruining the taste as far as I'm concerned.
One other place we tried that none of us were impressed with was Gonzalez Y Gonzalez in NYNY. First, we thought it would be Mexican. Instead we got Tex Mex. Flavorless food, overcrowded loud room and not so hot service. It was a big disapointment
and it's not someplace we'll return to.
Other than that we hit some of the regular spots. Great Moments room in the LV Club, the Cafe coffee shop in the Monte Carlo, Pasta Pirate in the California and a few others I just can't think of right now.
