Maybe some of you who checked out restaurant.com coupons noticed a place called E-String. I checked it out last night and had a great time. I think it might even have potential for a part of the bark party.
This is a pretty interesting place. It's a music store that specializes in vintage guitars, combined with a bar, combined with a restaurant, combined with live music. It's pretty much a dream come true for the owner, Peter Trout. He loves guitars, and the bands often let him sit in with them on stage.
I never looked at the menu so I can't comment on the food. I saw a club sandwich, salads, pizza, and a hot Italian something. I'm guessing maybe good bar food. I'll try it for lunch someday.
The restaurant has a stage and every day of the week is a certain type of music. Wednesday is blues night, and that's the night I was there. They also have a couple of accoustic nights, a bluegrass night, rock, blues/rock, etc. And they also have something going on Sunday mornings, but I forgot what it was. I works Sundays, so I didn't pay attention. A lot of local favorites play here including Pete Contino, Charlie Tuna, Junior Brantley, and Teddy Davis Jr.
They had a makeshift band they put together last night. It was an all star cast that all had significant backgrounds in music and Las Vegas. The bass player plays with The Tommy Thompson Project, which is a saxophone based band around town. He was with the original Platters and several other bands. He and the drummer both teach the history of the blues to schoolage children every morning at the House Of Blues. The guitar player and keyboard guy play together around town alot, and I've seen there names around town with their own band. They are Junior Brantley and Johnny Z. I know the sax player from my side of town. His name is Sid "the kid". Anyway, this band was just pieced together for the night and they did a great job.
It was a great night out to catch some local flavor. If you like blues and jazz, you might want to try the place on a Wednesday night with your restaurant.com coupon. Friday and Saturday nights should be good too.
E-String is located about a block south of Ethel M's on Sunset. They are working on website, but say they are having issues with it.
