This place has been on my to do list for years and years. Late this afternoon, I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by and give it a try.

This is an old house converted into a restaurant and bar. It's located on North Rancho, a couple of blocks north of the North Las Vegas Airport. And it's not so easy to spot, so don't blink when you get there or you might miss it. You actually have to turn east on Jay Ave then a quick left into the place.

If you are a fan of the old Green Shack, you will instantly be transformed back into time when you walk in the door. It is kinda dark inside, lit only by candles, christmas lights, and a few wall mounted light fixtures. The bar is rather small, but proportional to the rest of the place. It's quaint and does not have the relics that the Green Shack had on display everywhere.

The menu is rather small. They specialize in frog legs, steaks, and fried chicken, with a few seafood items thrown in. Most meals are in the $10-15 range, with nothing over $20. Each meal comes with an all you can eat salad bar. The salad bar is very small and barely adequate. I found all of the ingredients to be freshly prepared, even the crutons. I was there at 5:30 pm, they open at 5:00pm, so one might expect it to be fresh at that time. Each meal also comes with a fresh loaf of homemade bread. I chose the fried chicken dinner at $12.95. It comes with either steak fries or baked potato. I got the fries, because next time I want to try a steak with a baked tater. Each meal is prepared as it is ordered, so be prepared to wait.

My chicken was delicious. It was cooked perfectly and appeared to be pan fried in a cast iron skillet. I was a little disappointed in the preparation. It might have had a light dusting of flour on the skin before it was fried. By no means did it have a crust anything like what I expect on fried chicken. It was probably slightly more healthy this way. It did not affect the flavor any, so it still gets a big thumbs up. Somehow I imagine the frog legs might be the same way. The steak fries were out of the freezer and deep fried. That's probably about the only thing in the house that isn't fresh.

Service was friendly, dress is casual, and the location is out of the way of most everyone I know. I would guess it's just over a mile from Fiesta and Texas Station. I know that I'll be back. And I think it would make a pleasant change for anyone that has to ask, "Where should we go for dinner tonight?"
