   Dan Marino
   Dan Marino
The ads on billboards and the buses and taxis say that Dan Marino's is "next door" to Hooters, but actually it's right inside the place.

I've eaten there four times now and three out of those four visits, I've had some really decent roast beef for under $20 a pop.

A bit more for the bigger cut.

Make sure you order the cream corn as the side. It really is good cream corn.

I'm a big fan of Lawry's but lately I've been passing Lawry's up in favor of Dan's place.

It's not an identical cut of meat but it is decent and far less expensive.

You can take my word for it because I'm a critical guy when it comes to good roast beef.

Oh yea, that fourth visit to Dan's wasn't up to par for some reason. But three good meals out of four ain't too shabby.

Give it a try and I bet you'll like it cept for that 4th visit of course.

Thanks for the review!
I think the major draw-back to Marino's is the fact it's in Hooters. It looked like a nice place when we looked in on our visit. Really out of place for "HOOTERS" LOL

Yea, Lee, that was a strange marriage.

I asked our waitress how often Dan stopped by and she said that he was only there once for the grand opening.

But, I have to admit that this is one of my favorite dining spots now.

Will, I took your advice and it payed off in diamonds, and deuces, and prime rib.

When I decided to go out for dinner on a Friday night and not fight the holiday crowd, I was in a tough situation. I gambled that Hooters would be crowded, but the crowd would not be looking for a fine steak dinner. I was right. And you were right suggesting that it would be a good steak.

At 8pm on a holiday Friday night, there were barely half of the booths around the walls occupied and only one table. The menu looked very interesting with a 12 oucne fillet and some interesting seafood choices. I try not to order seafood at a steakhouse or vice versa. The place isn't particularly fancy inside. It has a semi open kitchen with a big glass wall. The booths were comfortable.

I took the large cut of prime rib, even though that was only 14 ounces. I selected garlic mashed potatoes as a veggie, and a side of creamed corn. I also got a glass of iced tea that was pretty forgetable.

The meat was very good. My particular steak was off the flat end instead of the round end. It was the oblong piece with a tail. The tail was ALL fat, so there was a lot of fat left on the plate. The side dishes were very big.

I'm sorry to say that the creamed corn did not strike me very well. I don't know what all it had in it, but I was expecting the taste of sweet corn, and it wasn't there. Was it liquor or sour buttermilk? All I know is that it wasn't a sweet corn taste.

Since the worst part of the deal was to be parking at Hooters, I decided to park in the Tropicana parking lot near Hooters, and walk in. That also makes for an easy out going westbound.

Thanks for suggesting Dan Marinos place for a prime rib. I plan to try it again and I hope it isn't the flat end with the big fatty tail. And I'll try different veggies and leave the creamed corn for you. And I'd like to challenge you to try the prime rib at The House of Lords in The Sahara some day soon and let me know what you think.

Thanks, JMT, Glad to hear that you enjoyed your meal. I also park at the Tropicana because the Hooters lot is too darn small. Didn't the old San Remo share some of that parking area with the Trop once upon a time?

JMT, I see is an earlier post that you had dinner at the House of Lords. Please detail that meal if you will.

I've always wanted to eat at the House of Lords but never have because it is difficult to convince myself that I would fine a decent meal in the Sahara.

I know I shouldn't feel that way because I really like The Steak House in Circus Circus.

I believe that The House of Lords was the restaurant of the Beatles choice when they were here in LV a long time back, so maybe I should give it a try, but the Sahara to me has the same low appeal as Circus Circus. (Maybe that is because I remember how it USED to be, which is nowhere like it is today!)

At present we plan to try the SW Steak House in the WYNN on our next big night out.

Wherever we end up, I'll make some comments here.

Okay will, I posted a House of Lords review. There is one more steak that I want you to try. Drive out West Flamingo and as soon as you cross over I-215, there is a place called Roadrunner on your right. There are other Roadrunners in town, but I am focusing on this one. It is an upscale pub and grub. They do NOT have prime rib. They do have a very good NY steak. It is about $20-25 and comes with a couple of delicious sides. The beef is top notch and nothing on the menu comes from a can. Most everything is cooked in cast iron. Even the free cornbread they serve at night with the dinners is awesome. I think they call it cowboy food. This old Texan loves it every time.

They have an upscale honkey tonk sports bar and redneck bowling too.

Thanks, JMT, I'll give Roadrunners a try sometime after the Cristmas holidays. I guess that honkey tonk means good martinis too?

After a less than impressive NY steak at Dan's recently, I gave them another shot for the prime rib.

The prime rib was YUMMY. DAG, you need to get this on your to do list. The short list!

It wasn't as soft as butter. It did have excellent texture. It was flavorful throughout. The au jus was very good. It might not be the very best in town. It will give them a run for the money though. The side orders are big too. The $24 prime rib includes a 14 ounce cut and a veggie. Add a side salad and another veggie and you would be stuffed. I know I was.
