There is a little chicken shack that I have been going to for over a year now. They specialize in rotisserie chicken and also have a lot of fresh salad ingredients to make some great salads. I only found the place because it was very near a Popeyes I was going to, and Popeyes has gotten too expensive with poor service. The Nevada
Chicken Cafe is on Sahara, near the southwest corner of the Jones intersection in a strip mall. I never thought that this place would survive because it doesn't stand out to the eyes when driving down the road. I gave them a lot of business because I got good fresh semi healthy food at a good price.
Lately I noticed that they do a lot of large take out orders, probably for small offices. Business has slowly gotten better and better. Many months ago, they had a promo going and set up a little BBQ pit and cooked some chicken there and offered rotiss style or BBQ (grilled) style. It was a success and they started doing it every Saturday. Pretty soon, they built wind break, and put in a large grill so that they could do more volume on Saturdays. I was in there a few days ago and they said they were trying to do the grilled chicken every day.
There are places all over town that have BBQ chicken of some kind or the other. This chicken is not big on a BBQ rub or sauce. It does have that down home charcoal taste that you get from when you have a BBQ in the park or lake or your back yard.
The open kitchen is always clean, which is something I look for in a chicken place. Service is always friendly. They play a smooth jazz radio station in the dining area. This isn't a very big place. You order at the counter then grab a table and they bring the food to you.
There is nothing too special about this place other than good quality chicken, salads, wraps, in a clean fast food setting. Most of their sauces and soups are hand made. And it isn't located in an ideal location for the tourist. It is very near the Radio Shopping Show station if you need to go by there. It's not far from the Hash House A Go Go if you know where that is. I like chickens and I like salads and this place is not too far from my house, so it's a good location for me.
It is a force to be reckoned with if anyone ever does a best chicken in town survey.
