Has anyone ever been picked up at the airport in a limo provided by the hotel/casino? If so, what do you think the proper tip would be if you just had one bag and basically you were taken from the airport to the front entrance of the hotel. The limo is courtesy of the casino, but the driver should be tipped for his/her service. Any ideas on what the proper tip should be?

Back in the late Braniff days, I went to Vegas with a girl that was a frequent visitor to a certain hotel. The limo picked us up, took us to the hotel, and the girl tipped him $5. However, we had use of the limo services whenever we wanted to go somewhere. The limo took us downtown, the limo took us to another hotel to see a show, and it took us to dinner. It came back for us after the show and when we left downtown, but we did not take it back from dinner. She tipped $5 each time and the driver seemed happy.

Mark, It's one of those freebies offered by the casinos.

Since a cab ride from the airport to the hotel with tip would probably be around $12-15, would a $10 tip be about right?

John,
When we rented a limo to take us from the airport to the hotel in April, the cost was $60 per hour, with a one hour minimum. Based on that, I guess $10 would be about right.

Lee Ann,

When you took the limo from the airport to the hotel, how long did the ride take? If you have to pay for a minimum of one hour, does this include a tour of the Strip; or do they take you directly to your hotel?

Also, I have read rates of $35 per hour - do I have old information? Which limo company did you use?

I'm asking all this because we will be going to Las Vegas for the first time next spring - second honeymoon. I think a limo ride for the two of us from the airport to hotel, including a tour of the Strip would be a great way to begin.

One more question - how far in advance do you reserve the limo? If your plane arrives late, do you lose your reservation?

Thanks so much.

HSMOM42,
The limo rates have risen recently. Last year, when we went to Las Vegas for my birthday, my husband rented a limo to take us from the airport and the price was about $45. This year I rented a limo for my husband's birthday and the cost was $60 per hour. I thought that was a good jump in price in less than a years time.

The rental rates are by the hour with a one hour minimum. The time starts when the driver leaves the limo company. It should be no more than 20 minutes. When the driver arrives at the airport, the times stops until he meets you. If your plane is late, there is no need to worry. When you reserve the limo, they ask you for your flight number and they call before they leave the limo company to see if your flight is on time. Calling the limo company a few days to a week or two ahead of time to reserve the limo would be fine. How long it will take you to get from the airport to the hotel will depend on where you are staying and what time of day you arrive. Sometimes strip traffic can be very slow and at other times of the day it isn't too bad. If you would like the driver to take you on a tour of the strip just ask him to when he picks you up. He is there to take you wherever you would like to go. You can ask him how long it took him to get to the airport, so you have an idea of how much time you have left in your hour.
We have used two different limo companies, Presidential and Bell Trans. Presidential drivers will meet you at the gate and take your carryon bags from you when you get off the plane. He will go with you to baggage claim and take your bags from the baggage carousel for you. Your limo will be waiting for you right outside of the baggage claim door. When you get to the limo, he will give you a rose and open a bottle of champagne for you and your husband. If you don't want to drink the champagne then, just tell the driver and you can take it with you.
Bell Trans drivers meet you in baggage claim instead of at the gate and they don't offer champagne and a rose. The price for both was the same, or a very small difference in price, so the last two times we used Presidential.
Las Vegas Limo also has a shared limo that I think also waits outside of baggage claim. You share the ride with other passengers and the driver will drop you off in order of where you are staying. I'm not sure of the price on that and I don't think you need advance reservations for that.

Here are some limo company phone numbers.

Bell Trans
702-382-7060

Las Vegas Limo
702-736-1419
888-696-4400

Presidential
702-731-5577
800-423-1420

If you have any other questions just ask.

Las Vegas Limo is right outside the baggage claim doors, and you don't need advance reservations. Cost is $4 per person to the Strip and $5 Downtown, plus a few bucks tip.

Thanks so much for the information. I can hardly wait for our trip. When we got married, there was no way we could afford a limo for anything; so I thought it might be a fun way to start our second honeymoon.

The difference in price between Las Vegas Limousines and Bell Transportation/Presidential is because LVL is not officially licensed by the State of Nevada. I was quoted higher prices by Presidential back at the end of September than you were saying above. If I remember correctly it was $75 per hour with 1 1/2 hour minimum. Tried to find the email from them, but I must have deleted it.

It turned out that the Venetian sent their limo for us and I tipped the driver $20, feeling that with his help with the bags and the fact the trip was "free" I felt he deserved it. Great driver by the way, very cordial and professional.

I think you folks are quoting prices for two different types of limo service here.

The $60.00 to $75.00 per hour prices would be for a private limo rental.

The $4.50 to $5.00 would be for a public or 'Livery' limo that loads up with several passengers to deliver directly to various hotels.

The limo Caesars sent for me in Oct would have taken me where ever I wanted to go. Since it was 10pm at night I wanted to go to Caesars and get my room. But he would have driven me around for a while if I wanted him to. Since it was a free limo I also tipped him $20. He retrieved my bags from the baggage claim, and made sure they were handled right away at the valet at Caesars. I felt a $20 was fair for good service, the limo ride and a very friendly driver.
