Flight/Airport questions
  Flight/Airport questions
Hi all,
After reading some posts I'm a little concerned about meeting up with my husband on our arrival in Vegas.
His flights are on United- Hartford to Chicago to LV. He has a 3 hour wait in Chicago and arrives in LV at 11:53pm.
I, on the other hand, am traveling on Delta using our FF miles. They are partners with United but could not get me on his flights. So I leave Hartford 2 hours after him, head to Atlanta and get into LV at 12:59am. My return stinks, I have to leave LV on sunday (or what I call saturday night) at 12:20am. Hubby gets to stay until 1pm on sunday.
Anyway, providing all flights go well, will they be able to wait for me to come in at the gate? Bradley, here in Hartford, closes off the gate areas after a certain hour and you have to wait for people in the baggage area.
I guess I can call United for Flight info when I get to Atlanta and at least I'll know if they left on-time. I'm going to be so excited, but yet nervous about finding them when I get there.

Patty,

As far as I know, the gates at MC are open 24 hours. The part about where to wait should not be a problem.

Since the two of you are flying on different flights, don't give up the idea of flying together. Right up until the time one of you has to board, continue to contact each airline to see if you can fly on the same plane. Be certain that both of you are able to make the same connections where ever. Good luck.

Patty, I arrived in Las Vegas a few years ago at 3am.
The airport was busy. I'm sure he can wait at the gate for you.
Las Vegas is a 24 hr a day town.
Good luck and have fun.
BTW, it might be smart to have a backup plan so if you can't meet at the gate you will meet somewhere else. The bottom of the escalator going to the baggage claim is a good place.

Patty,

John's right a bout McCarren being open 24 hours a day. It's busier at 2 in the morning then our airport is at 2 in the afternoon!

I also agree with Fred, you should both go to teh gate for the first flight leaving your home and try to get on it together. I'll bet you'll make it. You might not get to sit together cause one of you will be sort of a stand-by passanger probably.

Hi all,
Thank you all for the airport info.
Now the airline question again. We are on different airlines, United and Delta. They are partners (FF partners). They told me at Delta that I could get to Chicago(on United)with my husband but there wasn't a seat on the Chicago-Vegas portion. I'd hate to get stuck in Chicago by myself while he goes on to Vegas! I'd be jealous!!
We have been discussing changing our flights home. My MIL will be off work on monday so if we don't make it home till then it won't be a big problem (we have those 2 small rugrats to worry about ). I'm really bummed about having to leave at midnight, while hubby stays till noon on sunday. Especially now that we found out that his co-worker is bailing out to take a mini vacation on saturday afternoon.
I have quite often paid the $75 fee to change my tickets but I've never needed to with a FF ticket. Do they let you? Now you've all got me thinking. Just because there isn't a FF seat it doesn't mean there aren't any seats available. Hmm...
Thank you all once again for your help,

Patty: You can change your FF ticket without paying any charge, as long as you don't change the routing. But the catch is that there must be a FF seat open.

Sometimes if you can get put through to a supervisor and tell her/him the situation, they may open up another FF seat for you on the flights you want to switch to if it looks like the flights will not be sold out, so it's worth a phone call. This might be tough since LV flights are usually booked, but you never know unless you try!

PattyH,
The 1pm flight your husband has on Sunday is usually pretty full. It's a good "bumper" if that's what he's looking for! LOL
My guess is, he'd have a better chance of moving to your flight then you moving to his. Just My 2 Cents.
