Oh no, you mean I'll have to pay more to ride next to some of Las Veags's finest derilects? I'm not sure if I can do without the smell of thunderbird on the guys breath next to me. Not to mention the conversation with the passed out guy on the other side. Guess I'll have to pull the slot handle one less time.

Lee Ann,
What's up with the senior fare? Did that raise also?

Doug,
I've had some nice rides on the 301 already, but I've also had some real bad ones too. "the half the bus is filled with gang members ride" was interesting & colorful. The way they used some words with such flair amazed me.
Then there was the "construction worker special" we rode on in July. That's right, after they worked all day in the 110+ heat they are riding with us on there way home, talk about oder-riffic! That will clear up the old sinuses!

Lee,
Just because it's your birthday doesn't mean you're ready for senior fares....YET, but it's coming soon. LOL

Seriously, I just checked the CAT web site and they still list all of the old fares. I'll try to find out about senior fares and let everyone know.

Lee-PA,

Those late night buss rides can be the most interesting. Nothing like listening to a couple of homeless drunks talk about the best places to mooch free booze. I have seen these same three every time I've been there in the last year. The last time one had been beaten to a pulp but he was still cruisin for that next drink.

It's also entertaining to count how many rounds the bus makes with the same guy passed out in one of the seats. I wasn't sure if he was homeless or just couldn't keep up the pace.

Remember the following guidlines when riding
these "Chariots" Males: Keep you wallet in your fromt pocket. Ladies: hang on to your purse very tightly. Best: Wendell

LeeAnn,

Please send me the CAT bus website. I need to sign up for my senior citizen discount pass. We have found the bus service very satisfactory and the local passengers just add to the adventure. Most of them have been very helpful to us especially when we went to the Bootlegger Restaurant. Avoid some of the people and use the 302 express. It makes limited stops but is much faster and less crowded.

Lee >>The way they used some words with such flair amazed me.<<

Ya know, I was shocked the last time I was at MSS. A couple of young people were sitting at the main bar when I went up for a drink. A young guy came up to talk with them and they were chatting about how they were doing- gambling. The sexual words that came out of their mouths regarding gambling??? shocked the daylights out of me.

Now, I've heard it all before but I was shocked because the way they were dressed didn't match their language. So I guess ya don't have to be on a bus <lol>. And, the bartender didn't even say anything to them??

Doug & Lee, I have a new employee that drives the bus to work everyday. A couple of days ago, he said to me very seriously, "I think I'm going to bring some extra deodorant with me tomorrow on the bus and pass them out." <lol> So, I guess it depends on which bus route to take??

Lee Ann, Do you have a local number to the CAT? Would you like for me to call and check out the prices for the seniors?

I know it would only take me a minute to look it up in the phone book <bg> but I'm putting in 14 hour days and I'd rather sit here and type with Bud in hand than look thru the phone book.

Gail,
The local number for CAT is 702-228-7433. I also tried calling and listened to the recording regarding fares and the old fares were still listed. I decided to hold to speak to a representative but after being on hold on a long distance call for 5 minutes, I decided to hang up. <vbg> I know how busy your schedule is and I don't need the information immediately so I will just keep checking their web site. I'm sure they will change it eventually. <vbg> I'm not sure Mom will be using the bus during her visit next month. It's difficult for her to get up and down steps, so she might take a cab wherever she decides to go.

Gail and all: Have you ever seen a Las Vegas bartender or dealer correct a customer's bad behavior? I never have. It seems like there is a universal casino custom that allows customers' bad language and bad attitudes at the bars and tables.

One time a really aggravated man parked himself at my Blackjack table and was very verbally abusive to the dealer and the pit boss because the customer wasn't doing well hand after hand. The jerk finally left, so we all asked how come nothing ever is done about those bad-attitude customers and were told that even the badly behaved are valued customers. But what about the rest of the customers who are annoyed by that one person's behavior? It makes no sense since the bigger risk for the casino is that 5 people will stop gambling and walk away from the table instead of 1 person being asked to leave.

Veronica, At Sam's Town (years ago- at the tables) their policy was not to correct any customer's bad behaviour UNLESS another customer complained to the floor.

Once you complained to the floor, they would tell the customer what they expected from him/her.

I remember years ago at ST, a young guy sat next to a woman at the blackjack table. He was telling her to place bets for him and she would. I thought they knew each other. Finally the woman says to me, "Why doesn't the pit boss DO something about this guy?"

I asked her, "You mean to tell me that you don't know this guy???" She said, "No."

So without laughing at her I explained that she would have to ask the floor to tell this guy to take a hike. The floor cannot assume anything. She did not ask the floor and eventually got up and left.

Lee Ann and all, Called CAT today and waited 16 minutes for a real person "due to a heavy volumne of calls."

This is what the girl told me. Strip fare is $2.00 one way. If the senior has a "reduced fair I.D.," the fare is half price. Otherwise, the fare is full price. Off Strip fare has not been affected yet.

Lee Ann, Does this all make sense? If not, let me know what other questions you want me to ask <g>.

Gail,
Thank you so much for getting that information for me. I really appreciate you taking the time to do it.

I checked the CAT web site concerning reduced fares and what is required and this is what I found in case anyone else needs the infomation.

"You must present a valid Reduced Fare Photo Identification Card from CAT or another transit agency to purchase a one-way reduced fare ride and/or use a reduced fare pass. Elibible riders may apply for a CAT reduced fare photo-id card at the Downtown Transportation Center at 300 N. Casino Center Dr. There is a $2 fee to obtain a card. If you are eligible, the card will be mailed to you within two weeks. The following forms of identification will be honored to prove eligibility:

Seniors will need a valid driver's license
or non-dirver photo-id card issued by the
Department of Motor Vehicles

Persons under the age of 16 will need a
Birth Certificate, valid driver's license
or non-driver ID card issued by the
Department of Motor Vehicles.

Disabled applicants will need a Medicare
card or a signed letter (original document
only) from a physician stating the
individual is disabled and the length of
the disability accompanied by a valid
driver's license or non-driver ID card
issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

OR valid reduced fare eligibility cards
from another transit system which verify
disability or age."

From this I would say that it is only worth getting the reduced fare card if you make several trips to Las Vegas a year, since you must go in person to apply for the card and then it will be sent to you. Guess I should have checked the web site more thoroughly.
Thanks again Gail for checking. I appreciate your help.
