The House just passed legislation to transfer about 6,500 acres from the Federal Bureau of Land Management to Clark County, so that a second airport can be built. However, the bill still faces both Senate and President Clinton's approval.
The County would like to build this second airport about 30 miles south of Las Vegas in the Ivanpah Valley to handle the prediction of increasing tourism. Experts say that McCarran Airport will reach capacity by 2008; however the new airport would not open until at least 2010.
