American Airlines will drop 17 flights from Reno and 9 from Las Vegas, including all 4 of the daily flights between the 2 cities effective July 2.

Eliminated LV routes are: all 3 daily flights from Las Vegas to Colorado Springs, Colo., and Orange County, Calif., and 2 to Oklahoma City, along with the Reno service. AA will add 1 daily flight to Dallas-Fort Worth and 2 to Los Angeles. Reno will be hit the hardest; flights eliminated are: 3 daily flights to Portland, Ore., San Diego, Seattle, and Orange County; 1 to Chicago O’Hare.

Calculations show that Nevada will lose revenue from thousands of unsold rooms a year, based on a per-flight average of 100 passengers.

I suspect that other airlines are already filling those rooms. If American has cut out flights its because they have lost a share of the market. Maybe its just me but I find American to be a very expensive airline. Tom

It shouldn't be to much of a surprise since AA bought Reno air. American has made a habit out of acting like a preditor to it's smaller compitition. Here in Wichta, they ran Vanguard airlines out of town instead of buying them. With Reno air, they just bought them. If the government allows them, they will attempt to corner the market in all the areas they serve.

I stay as far away from AA as I can. Since I use Priceline.com, I'm sure I'll end up flying with them eventually.

I agree with Tom. I don't know about the schedules on the other routes, but Southwest has 9 flights daily between Reno and Las Vegas, with average fares of $39-44. That's pretty tough competition.

One interesting note from the Reno Gazette-Journal; the news of these cuts is coming from Rep. Jim Burton's office. There has been no announcement from AA, and calls to their office get a "we have no comment" reply.
