   "Pie in The Sky" Dream??
   "Pie in The Sky" Dream??
Many of you might be interested in reading an article in today's LVRJ about the gentleman with the dream of building subways throughout Las Vegas. He is a person of little or no influence and really doesn't believe it will ever be done because it just makes too much sense. Would relieve traffic congestion(instead of more lanes simply adding more traffic), ease pollution and would be a forever solution to a major problem. Whadda ya all think??

LVRJ link can be accessed via the talkvegas homepage.

Beth, on my Jan trip I spoke to a few cab drivers who hate the idea of a monorail system. I am willing to bet they would REALLY hate this idea. I wonder if it could be accomplished.

John,

A subway system makes a lot more sense to me than a monorail system. But, what do I know about transportation?<LOL>

No doubt, cab drivers would probably not appreciate either one, but LV desperately needs a modern transportation system. Progress usually steps on the toes of someone, but in the long run things usually work out and people find a slot(no pun intended) elsewhere.

A couple of years ago I was told that a few inches below the ground is solid rock. Maybe that's why they haven't considered digging.

To me a subway is a much quicker way to travel. The monorails are somewhat slow. That monorail between MGM and Bally's takes FOREVER!

Doug, that's what I was thinking as well. The sandy soil with solid rock below make this alternative un-workable. They have to blast in order to dig foundtations. Not to mention that the subway system would have to be ventilated or air conditioned. The New York subways get hoter than hell in the summer and the temperatures are nothing like Vegas.

bigboomer,

Thought houses built below ground in our area were warmer in winter and cooler in summer. Another myth?

Beth,
Underground would be naturally cooler, however, when you add all those hot sweaty bodies to the mix, it would be a disaster without AC.
