Been looking at airfares for the 4th of July week. My word the prices have shot up in the last few weeks. My market is Philly area, and they have risen atleast $100 dollars on most flights. I'm now looking at tickets for $417 rt that where under $300 2 weeks ago.

Anyone else having problems finding those cheap fares??? Any ideas?

My "quess" would be that people are begining to travel again and the airlines are trying to make up for lost revenues. Just a guess.

We just got back from Virginia, and the five flights we took were ALL jammed full. Not an empty seat. Toby flys back and forth to Chicago often, and has paid as little as 238 rt, and as much as 1249! By the way, the 1249 was a DISCOUNT price! Of course, he has no leeway on WHEN he can go, and sometimes has to make the reservations just a day ahead. He misses National. Anyway, he says that those planes are also jammed, at all times......
I think they have reduced the number of flights to keep them all flying full.
What do you think?

I have found this to be a horrible fact also!!
Airfare from PDX to Las has now risen to $204 before all the security and stuff is thrown in!
We have not paid over $160 for ever..I do watch my sales though, and buy when a sale is on.

Lee - we have normally been paying $200 - 225 rt between DFW and LAS. July trip is (tax incl) $297 rt each on America West - soooo, welcome to the group.

P.S. I also miss National and Sun Country.

Had a decent price, but when I went to book on Qixo, it jumped price on me, and I canceled! I post that mess on another post in this topic.

My problem is I mostly travel saturday & sunday. This trip is no exception. Most of us still are in the work force and only get a week off at a time. So we maximise our vacation time by paying the higher price for weekend travel.
Some day however, when the clock no longer matters, I'm looking forward to traveling at the off peak times, and cheap fares. That is if there is still an airline industry to speak of by then.
the way the airlines handle thier money, I'm amazed any are still flying. M2C
