I called, there are no earlier flights. The only thing I can do is leave a lot later, to eliminate the large layover time. However, I can't buy my original departing flight, it's not offered. Could this flight be already oversold??? Hmmmm The refund doesn't look apealing, because as my dates draw closer, the price of flights have risen, not to mention, I bought these early, and fuel prices have to effect some of that price, I'm guessing??? What to do, what to do?

I'm thinking this is the tip of the iceberg, and we will all see more of this, as airlines play let's shift the fuel money around.
When you spoke with Delta, did you work your way up to a supervisor? I would do so (politely and insistently, of course) and let them know that the change in your reservation means you will be missing an important business meeting in Las Vegas (okay, its a meeting with Sharon for dinner, but hey - maybe Joe can show up, and you can talk TalkVegas business) and how can that supervisor assist you in re-booking a better time on Delta or ON ANOTHER AIRLINE for your same ticket.
It may still not help, since flights are so fully booked this summer (at least the media tells us that will be the case) So for sure, don't cancel your current bad time rezzie till you have another one in hand. Bad arrival time trumps NO arrival time!
