Does number of coins change outcome?
Does number of coins change outcome?
I know all about the RNG, but....
I've seen people hit the 'jackpot' symbols with less than full coins and say, "It wouldn't have hit the same if I'd had full coins in".
What do you think?

Jeff, the first coin in stops the RNG and that's the hand you get. The remaining coins don't affect the outcome of the hand.

John,

Do you think all slots/VP machines work off the first coin? Could some be set to the last coin or when you hit the deal/spin button?

I've heard that some VP machine deal ten cards at once and when you tyhrow one away you get the card underneith the one you threw away. I've also heard that there's some that deal 5 cards then you get your replacements 'from the top of the deck'.

I just read an article about a pending case before the Nevada Gaming Control Board where this is coming into play. A lady was dealt four parts of the royal. The card she meant to throw away got discarded along with one of the cards to the royal. She's claiming a stuck button.
She was dealt A-H, J-H, 10-H, K-H, 6-S, in that order. The 10 got thrown away along with the 6. After the draw, the screen showed: A-H, J-H, 5-C, K-H, Q-H. The lady demanded to be paid. The question is, would she have gotten the Queen of hearts or the 5 of clubs if she had thrown away only the 6 of spades?

Jeff,
I read in some magazine (can't remember which one <vbg> ) a question from a reader who had gotten a royal flush without the maximum number of coins in. They asked if playing the maximum number of coins would have affected the hand outcome. The answer was that they would not have gotten the royal if they had played the maximum number of coins, so I had assumed that the RNG continues until the last coin or draw/deal button is pressed. I don't know if the magazine's answer was correct, but I like to think it was after I got that royal in July with less than maximum coins in. <vbg>

talking slots now,i also know rng and each pull is a random pull, but, there are many slots that give you what i call that comp pay in the first couple of pulls on a cold machine thus, the hit and run gambit on a row of slots.play one coin in a 3 payline machine and see how many payoffs show up on lines two and three, hit a decent payoff on a machine and the machine takes it all back. all of a sudden your luck is no good? random pulls? i don't think so.

Jeff, you might be right about the RNG being stopped on the last coin in. Everything I have read has always said that the first coin into the machine stops the RNG. Also, everything I have read says that you are dealt 10 cards, five up and five underneath them. When you discard a card, the one that was dealt and is underneath the one you threw away is the one you get. Don't know if this is true, but that is what I have read.

John, This is what I've been told and also what I have read. But then I just recently heard that the casinos were going to change this.

Jeff, I saw once at Boulder Station a lady complain about holding a card and it gone thrown away. I think the hand was 3 kings and the fourth king came. It was on one of the Reversible Royal machines.

BS called a mechanic and somehow checked it out and they payed her for the 4 kings. Kings are one of the lowest paying quads. But I wonder if they would have paid her on a Royal.

Personally, I don't think the number of coins makes any difference in the outcome, but how these machines really work must be the greatest secret in the world. I've read all I can about video poker machines and still can't figure out how they tend to "cycle" hot and cold streaks like they do. As to the situation Gail mentioned, I do that you can get inside a video poker machine and there is a switch or button that will show the previous hand played and what was held.

I read a little more of the article about the lady and her Royal. IGT and Bally say their machines deal 5 cards tehn replacements come from 'the top of the deck'. Sigma say their machine deal 5 cards and continue shuffling the remainder of teh deck until the draw button is hit. The articel did confirm that a slot tech can 'back-up' a machine a few hands.

Jeff,
I just read an article by Bob Dancer, which said that the RNG selects 10 cards for a hand. Cards one through five can be seen, and cards six through ten are waiting in a stack to replace the discards. If 2 cards are discarded, then card six and seven replace them, if 3 are discarded then card six, seven and eight replace them. This kakes it sound like card six is not behind card one, card seven is not behind card two, etc. Therefore the lady would not have hit Royal since she would have been dealt the 5 of Clubs.

Jeff,
The machines used to deal 10 cards at a time, this was just recently changed to a five card deal. However there are some 10 card machines out there which will be changed soon.
I can verify that a slot tech can back-up the machines a few hands to see what the machine did. I hit on one and it did not payout even though it showed that it did , and the tech backed-up the play a few plays to see what the mancine had done. (they did pay me).
