I am sorry to say, most of my Video Poker playing is done at Foxwoods in Connecticut. I play only a couple of their machines, since they do not offer full pay Deuces or Double Bonus. In all of my Video Poker books, I have never seen the pay tables for either of the games I play, and I wonder if anyone out there has any idea of the payback percentages on these games?

First one is All American Poker BUT, where the books all tell you this game pays 200-1 for a Straight Flush, the machines at Foxwoods only pay 50.

Second, and the one I most often play, is a Double Bonus. It has the following schedule:

RF 250
SF 80
4 A 160
4 2,3,4 80
4 5-K 50
FH 9
Fl 6
3K 3
2 Pr 1
JB 1

Notice two things different from the tables I see in my books - no bonus payout for 4 Aces with a 2,3 or 4, or other similar bonus, and higher payout for Straight Flush than in the tables. Anyone know anything about this machine? Payout % especially? Sometimes I do very well on it, and sometimes I get my butt kicked, and fast. There is nothing like hitting those Aces, though!

Any info very much appreciated!!

Cathy, I don't know the payback percentage but I believe there is computer software that can do this for you. I'm going to really go against the grain and tell you that I personally don't spend a lot of time looking for full-pay machines. I play a lot of video poker on riverboats and of course they do not have the selection you will find in Las Vegas. My personal experience has been that it is the number of 4-of-a-kinds you hit that determine a winning or losing session, and of course the royal flush. I have had some very good winning sessions on machines with poor pay schedules and have had some very bad sessions on full-pay machines. These are just my opinions and my experiences. I should note that I play Jacks or Better or bonus versions, but not Dueces Wild. Good luck!

Cathy,

I don't have your answer but I'll go ahead and ask a question that will need to be answered for someone to give you the answer. You don't mention if a royal with max coins pays 4,000. I would assume it does but we all know about assuming .

Gregg,

I won't argue your comment about 4-of-a kinds being a big part of determining whether you have a winning or losing session. I do feel the full pay makes a big difference on how long you get to play on your original buy-in. Those flushes and full houses are what keep you pumped up with enough credits to keep shooting for the 4-of-a-kinds and royals!

Hi All,

Veronica, I forgot all about straights, I feel like an idiot because now that you ask I am drawing a blank - it is either 4 or 5! I believe it is 4.

As for the Royal with max coins, yes, it is 4,000.

Finally, on the subject of hitting the four of a kind, I have had winning sessions where I do not hit for any fours. If I have several full houses or flushes, I can end up with an overall winning session, though obviously nowhere near the kind I can have if I hit a 4K or a SF (I have NEVER hit a Royal except on a Deuces Wild machine with deuces - I hold high hopes for my upcoming trip to Vegas!!!).

Thanks everyone for your thoghts and ideas.

Cathy: Outside of the 80 SF, it looks like another Foxwoods doctoring job that turned a 10/7 Double Bonus into a 9/6 Double Bonus which would pay out less than the 100% of a 10/7. Those SFs don't come around too often, whether at 80 or 50, and of course the 4 ST would make the payback percentage worse than the standard 5.

Cathy, the only thing I don't like about those Double Bonus machines is the payout
for one pair (jacks or better) or two pair
is the same. The regular full pay VP game
pays 1 for one pair, 2 for two pair. This
can come in handy if you are attempting to
build your stake. I do like the payout for
Aces and 2,3,4's, however!

Jeff,
I agree and think you should always play full pay machines if they are available. I play almost every week on a riverboat and of course it's not the same as Las Vegas. You play what they have, similar to Cathy's situation. I do try to play full pay machines in Las Vegas but it is frustrating to go to a casino that has a couple hundred poker machines, of which only two or three are full pay. I guess my point should have been that while in Las Vegas it seems like there is never enough time for everything and I don't like to spend too much time seeking out a machine. I do agree with the experts and the math that backs it up. After playing on the riverboats, when I'm in Las Vegas, everything seems like full pay machines. Of course they aren't.

Gregg,

I know what you mean about the VP payouts on the boats. I live in Columbus Ohio and friends are always inviting me to go to INdiana to the boats. The VP sucks, they don't have Pai Gow, and they don't have live poker. Those are my games so I always say, No thanks!

Jeff,
The riverboats in Indiana are the ones I go to. Grand Victoria in Rising Sun does have a poker room. Argosy in Lawrenceburg does not. Not sure about any of the others.

Jeff - The new Caesar's riverboat by my house has live poker and I believe they also have Pai Gow. You and Patti will have to come down for a day and I will be your tour guide.

Gregg,
I remember reading about one of the boats opening a poker room. Every time a friend would coma back from their I'd ask if they saw the poker room and I'd get told there isn't one. Guess I need to take a trip for myself.

Thanks for the info!

Cathy,

I haven't been to Foxwoods, but it was my understanding that the AA there was full pay. I know that they do have full-pay Pick-EM games with an EV of 99.9%.

Cathy,

It is also my understanding that Foxwoods does have some quarter full pay All American with an ER of 100.72%

The double bonus game you describe with the payout of 800/80/160/80/50/9/6/4/3/1/1 only has an ER of 96.72%
