What gambling magazines do you get/like/dislike? I get Card Player (poker) and Casino Player. I enjoy them both very much. Casino Player has info on casinos thruout the country. Card Player is expensive to subscribe to but free in poker rooms. Go figure?

I've never subscribed to Las Vegas Advisor. It used to get good reviews but I've heard grumblings lately. I think many people subscribed mainly for the coupon book which ain't what it used to be from what I've heard.

I used to get Nevada Magazine, not really a gambling publication but that was part of it. If you enjoy Nevada and like to get out of the city, this is a pretty good magazine to read.

Jeff,

We stopped subscribing to LVA this year as we felt it was worthless to us anymore.

Still receive Casino Player and I read it from cover to cover and enjoy it. Also find myself many times checking back issues for information.

Read many issues of Las Vegas Style magazine and thoroughly enjoy the articles. Contains in-depth articles on entertainers, shows, restaurants, chefs, side-trips, attractions and much, much more.

Continually receive Strictly Slots without subscribing. Have no idea why. Read it simply because it's available and free.

Jeff,
I currently receive in the mail Las Vegas Style magazine (very good) has articials written by Barney Vinson, Sr Monti Rock III, (remember him? sang the disco hit "get dancing") Those are my 2 favorite writers in the mag.
I also receive LVA, but I don't know if I'm gonna re-subscribe. I just received my experation notice and am going to think on that one for a few days. With the information from TalkVegas (this BB) being up to the minute, the LVA seems stale. Add the fact that they seem to have a bias on certin casino's lately. IMO
I had gotten the Casino Player for a number of years, but they seemed to cover AC more then LV, so I cancelled it. I've also subscribed to "What's on" LV freebee magazine for a year, a few years back, but the price of a subscription, for actual information worth, it was a bust.

My husband and I subscribe to three - Casino Player, Strictly Slots and LVA. I absolutely love all three of them, but Mike's favorite is definitely Casino Player. We pick up LV Style once in a while too, it can be entertaining but not a lot of depth. (Love Barney Vinson though, and had wondered if that was the same Monti Rock III!!!) I ordered a subscription to Double Down for Mike's birthday last year and the service is astoundingly bad (so is the magazine) so I would NOT recommend it to anyone.

We subscribe to the LVA, not for the food coupons but for the gambling coupons that Hal has used quite successfully. We get Strictly Slots mainly for the information on the new innovative machines coming out (although neither of us play them), and we also get Casino Player for an occasional interesting article.

Blossom, If you want my gambling coupons from the LVA coupon book, e-mail me and I will mail them to you. I used the one at the Reserve, or was it Sunset Station?, and it cost me $100. Since then I've decided not to use anymore coupons for gambling<G>
Glad that Hal has better luck than I do. Let me know if you want them.

I presently subscribe to LVA and Strictly Slots and used to be a subscriber to Casino Player. I did not renew Casino Player after I sold 5 subscriptions to friends last year and waited 4 months for my "commission". Letters to the editor and both Nevada and New Jersey offices received no response. I may only be once subscriber but they will not get any more of my money. I did eventually receive my money. On the other hand, Strictly Slots is published by the same folks so I guess they are still getting some of my money. Aside from that incident, I think both of these are excellent magazines. Just received my last issue of LVA and not sure if I will renew or not. Personally, I would like to see more info on gambling and less on dining, and eliminate the space given to Top Ten Values (just the list would do). I do like the info in the Advance Planner section. As far as the coupons go, I'm sure they are a great value IF you use them. In four years, I think I have used only one of the coupons. I have bought single copies of Double Down and Chance, but do not subscribe.

Gregg,
Chance? I haven't heard of that one before. What or who does it cater too?

You know?! Come to think of it, I have not purchased any casino magazine since I joined this informative list. And I used to read them all as soon as they were published. That says a lot for this list because I am a casino junkie!

I guess I should say, "Thanks"!

I have to be completely honest and say that I really got disappointed seeing all the internet casino ads in each of the magazines. I personally feel that you have to be one foot in the lu-lu bin to gamble on the net.

Lee,
I'm going strictly from memory, so I may not be entirely accurate. CHANCE is a quarterly magazine and covers all forms of gambling with no specialty in particular. I bought the second and third issues on the news stand and never did subscribe. I believe the first issue came out about two years ago and I'm not sure if it's still being published. I didn't save the issues I had or I could possibly give you more information. Maybe someone else on this board can help.

Will, I agree with you about the internet gambling sites. I lose enough money on my Las Vegas trips. I don't need to lose more while I'm at home.

Thanks gregg,
It's not a publication, I'm fimiliar with, that's for sure. I do notice that some of the gaming magazines have a very short shelf life though.

Will & John,
I must concur with both of you. The internet gaming seems to just feed off a habit, and not give anything back in the way of fun. I'd have a hard time writing off my internet gaming losses, in my own mind, as having any entertainment value.
