V,
Harrah's used to send quarterly updates on my slot club points and send along some coupons too. But I haven't received any of that for quite awhile now. Do you know if they stoped it, or have I cashed in too many of my points to qualify for the mailing?

Lee: Harrah's stopped that mailing entirely.

Now I'm trying to figure out if, for any casino, you get better offers if you leave *some* points in your account instead of cashing in and having a zero balance. Of course it may vary casino to casino, but in general, I wonder if it makes any difference.

Veronica, Caesars told me to cash out the points. The Rio told me to leave them on the account. So you are right that it varies from casino to casino.
I don't see why it matters. You are rated by your play, not the amount of points you have in your account. The Rio did tell me I would get better offers if I left the points.
That reminds me, I need to cash in all those Rio points soon.

V & John,
Flamingo point expire! So you got to watch what you leave behind! Harrah's points also expire.
So leaving large amounts of point behind just doesn't seem to make much sence on those systems.

About a month ago I rec. a point statement and offer for 3 free nights in Sep-Oct-Nov.
Going to use the free nights in Oct. But will try to trade them for meals at the Range. As regulars to Harrahs the casino usualy picks up our room tab anyway.

Lee, some casino's points expire after a year of non use of the slot club card. I think the Rio is like that. That's why it makes sense for people that don't go to Las Vegas very often to send their slot club card with a friend when possible so they can keep their account active. Just give them $10 and tell them to find a 9/6 vp machine and run the $10 through it.

John: Could running $10 through to keep your slot club card active actually end up lowering your rating level with the casino? Now we are back to Jeff's topic of: should you always use your slot club card? <g>

V, don't know if that's a good thing, if telavision advertising wars heat up across america, it could possibly effect the bottom line and that would spell cut backs in freebies and such.

I tried to participate in this promotion in April, but did not qualify as I was still in their computer system from 1995, the last time I played there. I played video poker for about an hour in April and again for a short time in June. I have received a good room offer, good for 4 free nights. As far as using your slot card all the time, I think it makes sense to do so. On the other hand, there may be circumstances where it would be better to not use it, if you are playing way under your "normal" amount of play. A good friend of mine was told at one casino (not in Las Vegas) that their comps were based on your average play over the last 5 trips. It was suggested to her, by a casino employee, that she would be better off to not use the card at all if she was only going to be playing for a very short time. Hard to figure out the reasoning of the various slot clubs.
