   JOB question
   JOB question
I have just started working with WinPoker, and I am confused. Look at this hand:

K dia, Q dia, K clubs, 10 dia, 3 hrts
Ordinarily I would have opted to keep the 2 kings, but after playing for several hours it "seemed" that everytime a hand had 3 to a royal he dumped the pair and kept the 3 to a royal. This time he kept the 2 kings. What am I missing?

First, what game are you playing in WinPoker?

Jacks or Better - is that what you mean? If everytime I sound a little befuddled it's because I am determined to learn this.

The correct play is to keep the 2 Kings. On some of the other vp games they may want you to keep 3 to the royal, but on JOB the play is to keep the Kings. I don't know why you would have gotten any other advice using winpoker.

Joyce,

Of course John is right. Also if the pair was queens the correct play would be to keep the queens. However if the pair was tens the correct play woud be to keep the three cards to the royal. Your Winpoker has a feature called analyze. If you click on that and then on "any hand" a screen comes up that lets you choose any hand and analyze what to do with it. Very interesting.

Bob

In JOB keeping 3 to a royal over a high pair would depend on the amount on the progressive. At 4000 the proper play would be to keep the high pair.

GREAT POINT about the amount of the progressive. While I don't see too many JOB progressives anymore, If the jackpot was large enough I would throw the kings and go for the royal.

Me to. Especially if it was getting close to going home time.

A few days ago I was play nickel 5/8 JOB in the Ho where the progressive was over $400 for a royal. The man next to me was playing two machines...3 nickels in one and 2 nickels in the other. Never asked him why.

Blossom, You see all types in Las Vegas. I can't think of a reason for him to play that way. What if he hit the royal? He was playing max coins, but splitting it between 2 machines. Go figure.

The Westward Ho has a bank of quarter 9/6 JB progressives. The game reaches 100% EV at a $1220 meter. Up to, and including a $1111 meter the proper play is to hold any paying pair over any 3-card-royal. At $1111.25 you would hold a Q-J-10 suited over a paying pair. At $1328.75 you would hold any 3-card-royal over a paying pair. In-between the above figures there are several break points that you would hold K-Q-J and other 3-card-royals, but the above information should be precise enough.

Thanks guys. I knew I was missing something. I guess I only thought WinPoker always seemed to keep 3 to a royal instead of a pair of kings. Thanks also VPBob - I gotta try that "analyze" feature. The good thing about all of you helping me now is that I'll have some stuff about VP in my next trip report which I've never had before.
