Watched "Casino Diaries" last evening where a professional gambler happened to hit a nice win on bar vp when there was a power failure. It mentioned the bar closing and he was worried about getting his money. Turned out okay as the power returned just in time and his machine returned to its original settings.

I've always been one who cashes out more frequently than others while playing vp as I like to take some profits instead of playing credits down to zero. Another reason is I try to avoid those inevitable refills from holding me up just as I'm planning to move on. Seeing this guy convinced me that I'm doing what's best for me. I certainly don't want to sit and wait for a power return.<s>

Are you one of those who allows credits to build and then play them down, or do you make a practice of taking some profits and reinvesting your original amount? When do you say, "It's time to pocket some of my money"?

I do enjoy "Casino Diaries", but wish the shows were longer.

Beth,

We usually cash out at $100 increments if we are playing quarter machines as we usually do. This means we cash at 400 or, if we go over 400 and don't get back down there, cash out at 800 or 1200 or 1600 etc. If I'm playing $1's I'll usually cash out at $400 or any 100 increment above that. It's really a bummer to get way up there and feel good and keep playing only to discover that all of a sudden you're down to ZERO

Beth, I hit and run. So I cash out a lot and then reinvest my original stake, keeping my winnings on the side and I do not dip into those winnings. They go home with me. That is the only way I can have a chance.

I also cash out often but for a different reason: machine stalkers. (I'm 0ne) People who walk around scoping out which machines are paying and which aren't If they see someone playing a SM with 400 or 800 credits, they make a mental note of that machine. They'll keep coming back waiting to play it.
If I get a hot machine I keep cashing out so it doesn't look like I'm winning. This way the stalkers have a harder time targeting my machine as a winner and thus won't play it.
I usually spend several hours when I first get to vegas, just watching others play. I let them lose or win on thier own money but make mental notes as to how often a machine is hitting, what the recycle rate, when the machine go's cold, how many pulls does it take before it starts to hit again.

John,

That's the only way I can get ahead. However, I don't always take the winnings home.<g>

bigboomer,

Thanks! Another good reason for cashing out.

Like Bob, I'll cash out and start again if I get up to 400 credits on a quarter machine, but I don't really want to think about how many times I've been up 200+ credits and taken the machine down to zero. I guess that's why they call it gambling<g>.
