Talking to friends who just got back from Vegas - they told us they saw scammers hanging around the S&H Green Stamp slot machines in 3 different casinos.(NYNY, Bellagio and Wynn)
Some of you know how these slots work better than me. I guess you have stamp books on the screen,, and you earn stamps to fill the books. When you get a full book, you can "trade it in" for free spins.
If you stop playing with a partially full book, you forfeit the credits associated with the partially filled book.
My friends saw 'helpful" individuals - targetting players at these games in the following way:
"Do you know how to play this? Its really fun!" They encouraged the player to bet more an more. When the game got to the point of having a book almost full, they would then encourage the player to give up and "cash out their credits" - the game's not paying off.
When the player left, the scammer then sat down and with very few additional credits was able to fill the book of stamps and play the free spins.
I know Lee has played the game. And I know sometimes you come across a machine with some books with stamps in them. And I know none of YOU would ever take a stranger's advice on playing a slot.
But have you seen this happen?
Our friends also mentioned they did not see the Green Stamps machines in any of the Harrahs properties this visit, and wondered if they were removed because of this problem.
It does make me want to look for the machines this week. (whoo hooo - this week!)
Kes, I've not seen them ever in a Harrahs property, so I kinda doubt they where removed. Boyd/coast has a lot of them as well as station, and most of downtown. I remember something similar to this with some Oddessy machines with a pirate game...vagely. I remember checking machines for the knife count or something like that. I think the Piggy banking machins are similar as well, in the fact you bank points untill the piggy is full and are given the credits. I guess it all comes down to know your game and understand it first. Anyone telling me how to play a game, I'd basicly tell them to take a hike. But I'm guessing at the above properties they get thier fair share of newbies.
I think there are a number of different machines with bonus video screens that accumulate and them pay off when some kind of bin is full.
Normally, I try to mind my own business at the machines but it drives me insane to see some yokel trot up to a Megabucks machine and feed it one coin at a time. Realistically, I recognize that suckers like that underwrite the comps for the better players but it is just going too far.
Years ago, scammers hung around you if you were playing the Fort Knox slots at NY/NY. Operated the same way as you stated. It was pretty annoying with people standing behind you hoping you would leave before the combination opened the vault.
Fred, I forgot about those...I used to like playing them at NY NY. It was exciting to see what and when you'd unlock the safe. Are they still in operation somewhere????
Locations noted! Thanks! They where for a time one of the few slot machines I would play. Now I actually seek out certin slots. I didn't play the S&H Green Stamp slots this past trip, and I noticed a lack of play by everyone....most where always empty.
