   Las Vegas Lakers????
   Las Vegas Lakers????
Heard that Steve Wynn has been talking to the owner of the LA Lakers about a buy.
He would possibly like to buy them and move them here if the downtown arena gets approved, or maybe to his new arena that he start building behind the Mirage.

D.A.G.,
Great play on words! LOL

Paul, why would you want to own a team of anything in LV? Wouldn't that preclude betting on that team? Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't Caesar's not take sports bets on the NY team as long as ITT owned the team up in NY? I'm very out of it in sports other then football, so please excuse if this post didn't come out right! <S>

Lee,, yes you're right. Also, the NBA, and NFL, etc. do not allow anybody with gaming interests to have any ownership in a team. Kirk Kerkorian , MGM, was interested in buying a pro team also, and the gaming board indicated that it would be difficult to do.
I was wondering about that myself, but I heard that he might be able to convince the gaming board for an exemption. The sports books also, can't take bets on any LV teams. But who knows, with the draw a Pro Team might bring , they may change their rules to accommodate.

Thanks Paul,
I just can't see a casino taking a hit like that (not being able to take bets on the game) just for the luxury of ownership.
But I'm just a working guy! What do I know about big business?

If Steve Wynn had any influence on the city, he might could pull some strings.<g> It's not like he hasn't done it before. I'm sure he wouldn't use his money to try and get the city to see things his way.

I would aggree with you if it was a local thing. But This is a State Gaming regulation, that comes from Carson City.
There is no question he has a lot of influence , but They would have to change the law, (like they did for the Art Gallery Tax deduction) to make it happen...
