Three Nevada casinos dropping 'Hilton' name
LAS VEGAS SUN

Park Place Entertainment Corp. of Las Vegas plans to drop the "Hilton" name from three of its Nevada casinos at the end of the year, Chief Financial Officer Scott LaPorta said.

Plans call for the Hilton name to be removed from the Flamingo Hilton Las Vegas, the Flamingo Hilton Laughlin and Flamingo Hilton Reno at year's end, LaPorta said. Park Place's two-year licensing agreement to use the name on the hotels will expire at year's end, and LaPorta said the company does not currently plan to renew it.

Starting next year, the properties will operate as the Flamingo Las Vegas, the Flamingo Laughlin and Flamingo Reno, LaPorta said.

Two other Park Place properties, the Reno Hilton and Atlantic City Hilton, have a license agreement to continue to use the Hilton name for another eight years.

Silverton hotel-casino owner Ed Roski Jr., who announced in July he will buy the Las Vegas Hilton for $365 million from Park Place, said he plans to keep the Hilton name under a license with Hilton Hotels Corp.

Park Place was created by the spin-off of Hilton's casino properties in late 1998.

Beth,
I don't see this as a good thing for my Flamingo Hilton. Is there any chance that they could change their minds on this one. It seems the Hilton name coupled with the Flamingo, they wouldn't want to monkey with?
