If anyone gets their boat damaged it's their own fault. We were given plenty of notice of the move and the notice said to have adequate dock lines (6 point tie minimum, I put 8 on mine) and that the dock lines are in good condition. They suggested that if you have old dock lines to replace them with new ones before they start moving the marina. They are towing the marina at such a slow speed, around 1 mph, that bumping around should be minimal. They are also watching the winds and if they don't have glass like conditions on the lake the day of a move, they hold off for the next day.
The drive to the new location is 4 minutes longer from my house than where we have been. Used to take 26 minutes now it will take 30 minutes. We will take Lake Mead drive to the I-515 and go South on it through Boulder City and enter the lake by the visitors center.
There are a lot of advantages to moving the marina to the new location. If you would see the difference in the view we have of the lake at the new location it is FAR better than the view at the old location. We are in the very last row of slips, so the view from the back of our boat is the entire lake and not the back row of boats in other slips. Water is much clearer due to the fact that we are no longer in the wash that comes into the lake from the city and it's three sewage treatment plants that dump into that wash. Even though it's a few minutes longer drive, it's mostly freeway driving now, much less stop and go traffic and stop lights. Cruising over to the dam is one of our favorite places to cruise to and hang out, from the old location it was 12 miles one way, now that we are 10 miles closer, it's only a couple of miles, cuts down on the use of that $2.13 a gallon marine fuel.
If the winds are calm tomorrow they will move the last section and that's the one that my boat is in. I've got the day off so I'll be at the lake watching my boat and slip make the move.
That picture of the move in the Thursday LVRJ was from the thrid section that they moved on Wednesday. It is quite an impressive sight to see. I went down there on Monday when they moved the second section, that section not only had boats and slips it had the marina store, resturant & lounge with it. I stopped at one of the scenic overviews of the lake and watched it go by. It was unbelievable that just a couple of boats tied to the side of that huge mass of boats and slips could move it.
