Yet another inverstor has taken over Neonopolis and has big plans. The city funded parking lot with a big shopping mall on it has never managed to make money, never managed to keep clients, and never was a destination for tourist or locals.
The new owner has submitted plans to the city council to build a 600 room hotel with a casino. In case the city does approve the hotel/casino, the new owners also submitted a couple of back up plans to make the shopping mall work.
It is my opinion that some day that will be valuable land capable of attracting tourists. I think that time is at least 10 years down the road. It is located on the far edge of the tourist part of downtown. As downtown Las Vegas builds more condos and there are more locals within walking distance, I think the place has a chance to be a marketplace by day and an entertainment center at night. But first, they need thousands and thousands of upscale local residents.
