   Buh Bye Hooters
   Buh Bye Hooters
The new owners of Hooters are getting closer and closer to the final plans to get rid of the Hooters theme. No word on what theme they will use. All I heard is that they want more casino space and more suites. Construction could start in 6 months or less. Or, they could drag it along for years.

I'd rather they start the changeover now. The new owners have made it less and less attractive every time I go there.

In other news, Binion's was sold again. Who Cares?

I care! I have fond memories of Binions, and it was a big part of Las Vegas history.

The Hooters theme didn't last long, did it? How long has it been?

Mike, I had to look it up. It's been 2 years, plus one month. I gave the place a 2 year life expectancy. Good point using the word theme though. Planet Ho just re-themed. Luxor is re=theming. I'm not sure what NYNY and Sahara deserve that term.

Like Binions, new Hooters ownership has already ruined most of what made the memories in the first place. The longer they keep the name (or traces of the names as Binions does) it adds unfond memories.

Okay, who's next? Tropicana? Circus? I think the Riv might be exempt since it pretty much doesn't have a theme.

Daisy.....when was the last time you where in binions????
It isn't anything close to what it once was. It's just a shell of it's former self. In that respect, I can see a who cares responce. I mean, I don't spend any time in the place gambling, have you?
Hooters I kinda feel the same way, only there I can't really say I had any good times except with people from this BB for a show and one dinner at Dans. But that good time probably would have happen anywhere if I was with this group!
The only negitive I see about Hooters theme going is what will happen to Bobby Slayton? Any word JMT?

Additionally, the who care's statement relates to the number of times it has been sold in the last few years. As we all know, Binion's has almost no significant Vegas history at all. It was Binion's Horseshoe, better known a The Horseshoe that had the history. And it was adorned with the letter H all over everything. You would have to look long and hard to find a logo H in the place these days.

I suppose I'm not the demographic to reflect on Hooters as a theme for a casino. But I did think it was really strange to see a place with a basketball court type flooring and crystal chandeliers. If you're going with a theme, go for it! Don't mix metaphors.

And I did like the "Pitbull of Comedy"

But the whole atmosphere of the place? To me the best part was that the dealers and cw's got to wear comfortable shoes - sneakers. Probably not what their demographic audience is looking at.

Lee, my best guess is that I was in Binion's about 3 years ago; I know it was during the Harrah's reign, and Binion's was already a shell of its former self back then - which didn't bother my memories one iota<g>.

JMT, I wouldn't presume to speak for anyone else, but my mind doesn't separate the word "Binions" from Binion's Horshoe in Las Vegas history or in my memories.

I always thought that Hooter's could make it, only, if they ran it as a local's casino. Good food cheap, good machine pay tables and limits and rules at the tables. That, combined with it being on The Strip, or close enough to The Strip, would make it unique on the South Strip and draw a steady and probably loyal clientele. But, that didn't happen. From the beginning, the room rates were at Strip Prices, not local's hotel prices and I think it really lost any attraction it could hope to sustain over time. I mean, the room rates were like the MGM or New York/New York, yet, Hooters is at least a level below The Orleans, Silverton, and definitely South Point.

I went through Hooters about a year ago, on my way to the MGM poker room, and I kinda liked it. It had that easy going Off Strip feel to it at about 11am, but I hear that turns into more of a Spring Break crowd at night. If it looks and quacks like Off Strip, maybe it shouldn't be priced like The Strip; that's my feeling about it anyway.

Ed, I think your on to something, they needed a customer base, and the strip clientel, had better places to stay and spend.

Lee, I remember reading an article about it around the time Hooters opened. It didn't make lot sense given the fact that running airlines is a tough business. If it was that easy, a big casino operator like MGM or Harrah's would probably have their own airline for the California crowd.

In light of the possibility of the Hooters closing and thus the slot club closing, I cashed out my points and comps last night. I got a bunch of cash and some freebies. I see myself going back only to catch the Bobby Slayton show a time or two before he leaves.
