This latest installment of my adventures to Vegas all started because I saw where Lee and Sue were going to be out on Labor Day weekend. Plus with all vacations at work being cancelled for about 6 months, I just wanted to get away for a while. It worked out very well because when I started checking on airfares, I found that they were having a price war for a few days. Normally from Greensboro NC, the normal 21 day fare was $ 406. But buying the tickets online from Previewtravel, and taking advantage of a $50 rebate, I was able to get 2 round trip tickets for around $460. So I should be coming back in Oct. to meet some more of the group, unless something happens.
Once again like last year at Labor Day, there was a hurricane affecting North Carolina. But unlike last year when it was close to Charlotte airport , while I was in the air, this years version was pounding the coastline but we still had good weather. The flight out on Continental was mostly uneventful , with our arrival time being about 20 minutes early.
I claimed my bags, and even though I have been out many times, I still went to the wrong side of baggage claim to try and find the bus to Alamo. So after walking back across to the other side, I found the bus and took the ride to Alamo

Thanks for the trip report. Many times when going to AC or LV, someone wants to give me money to play for them. I refuse but Beth accepts. The last time I asked her what she will do if she hits a jackpot. Knowing her, she would turn over the winnings and then slit her wrists. Now she matches whatever money is given to her and says that she will split it. She won $100 one time while doing this and pocketed the other persons winnings and spent hers on the same machine.

Any time you can meet Lee, Sue, Sandy, Gail and Joe in LV has to be a good trip. Sorry we won't be there in October to meet all of you. I still refer to your report on the float trip as one of the best that I have read. In May we took the float trip for the second time and were accompanied by two first timers. I gave them your report so they knew what was coming.

The Black Canyon River Rafting trip will always be one of the highlights of all my Vegas trips. I have recommended it to almost everybody that I know that is going. If any of my friends come out with me in Oct. I'm sure that I will take them on it too.
As far a betting other peoples money, it hasn't become a major sideline but once I did get $100 from a gut that I worked with with written instructions on what game and how to play it. He said that if it won that I could keep half. But so far any money that was to be put on Roulette or craps has lost. I have had several people win on slots, from a quarter returning $1.25 to $25 bringing back $73. I take whatever they give me and keep playing until it is all gone or is at least double what they gave me. I don't know what would happen if the $20 bill brought back the megabucks total, but I hope to be able to face this terrible problem on the next trip!!

Thank you for your concern. I live about 200 miles from the coast so all we got was rain and some 35 mph winds. They closed schools today expecting more damage but the eye moved about 100 miles east of where they were predicting. I woke up to blinding sunlight instead of what we thought we were going to get. Overall the area that I live in is pretty safe but we have had some tornados and wind storms that have caused heavy damage in some areas.
Anybody know if Vegas is ever affected by tornados or hurricanes?

Layne, I've done some research on this in the past. If I can ever find the site again, I'll post the facts. From what I can remember, there has been many tornado touchdowns but only like a "one" on the scale. It was interesting to say the least. There must be a reason that we don't get any big ones. Wonder if the valley being surrounded by mountains have anything to do with it.

Glad your just all wet! LOL We're taking the storm on right now, but in PA, the ocean is pretty far away! But none the less schools let out early and a lot of businesses closed too. There is a lot of water everywhere.
