The Senators Trip
  The Senators Trip
Left Columbus OH on Friday at 1:30. Blew 40,000 miles to upgrade us to first class. I begged and pleaded with the gate attendant not to take our miles but he wasn't going to cooperate. Had 1 C&D on a new Airbus. Strong leather smell from the seats which were the nicest I've been in. The head rests had "wings" on them you could pull up beside your head if you wanted to nap. Of course I couldn't nap, would have missed some of the Glenlevits. I drank all but one and the gal sent it with me . Had an hour layover in Phoenix. My friend George met us since he had just arrived an hour earlier. We visited a bit in the America West club then got the plane for Vegas. One more scotch then a short nap before arriving on time.
Patti went outside for a somke while I collected the luggage. My golf bag got ripped so had to make a short stop in the baggage office.
Hopped the shutle for National. Tried to get the driver to upgrade me to a Cadedy but he said a Bonneville was all he could get away with. Gave me the name of a guy in the office to talk to. A $20 bribe and a $15 increase in my rate got me into a Sedan Deville with 14,000 miles on it. This was a great rate. $205 INCLUDING all the taxes for 8 days.
One person ahead of me at Mandalay Bay at the VIP check-in. A guy two windows down motioned for me to come down. Another $20 bribe got me into a nice suite at the end of the hall with a 2 person jacuzzi. My casino rate for the weekend was $105 per night.
Went to the casino and proceeded to get killed at the Pai Gow table. Dinner was with a group of TV moderators at the Redwood Grill at the Caliofornia. Everyone seemed to have a great time. The King crab legs aren's worth the $30. Stick with the Porterhouse special.
Bedtime followed another losing Pai Gow session.
Called Rent-a-Vette Saturday morning to have them pick us up to get our Harley. Gave me the bad news that someone had layed down the Road King I had reserved. All they had left was a Heritage Softail. Picked it up and went back to MB to meet V and Walt. Off to Buffalo Bills to ride the Desperado. The coaster was great. Patti and I then took off into California on the bike. Got back in time for a quick shower before the TV meet at TR's. Enjoyed visiting with many old friends. Left for downtown followed by my friends George and Myra. Got VERY lucky finding parking spots in Binion's garage. They had a special area for the bikes which helped. Roamed around the big car show for a bit then headed to the California for a reservation at the Pasta Pirate. They were about 20 minutes late seating us. Just started munching on some bread when we saw Lee and the girtls come in. Lee's so well known thruout Vegas that they quickly came up with a big table that we could all eat together. Another very enjoyable time with great food.
Back to MB for another losing session of Pai Gow.
We took the bike out to Red Rock Sunday morning before having to return it. Rode 195 miles, they give you 200. This place requires you to bring gas receipts to prove you put 92 octane in. I handed teh guy my paperwork from when I picked up the bike and he quickly shredded it before I had a chance to tell him my gas receipts were in it.
I was able to get a late check-out. Met Daisy, George and Myra for breakfast. The coffee shop at MB has great French Toast.
Checked out around 1. My host wouldn't do anything on the room. Said you need 4 hours of black chip a day for room comp!
Headed for Sam's so Patti could do some shopping. Thankfully they're closing their western shop, that's will save me a lot of money on future trips .
Stopped for a cooler, pop and snacks then off to Mesquite.
Our friend had a first floor room, near the pool for us with a nice fruit basket.
The rest of the week was all pretty much the same. Hit the pool about 8 with coffee and a muffin. Leave the pool early afternoon. I'd get cleaned up first and go to the casino. Patti would come down in time for dinner. We ate almost every meal at their coffee shop. Patti like the steak & eggs. I went between the ribs, steak & shrimp, and breakfast.
Walt, Veronica, Randy, and Kelly came out on Tuesday. I had a terrible round of golf but enjoyed the company. Walt & V left shortly after golf. Daisy was also in town so the 5 of us enjoyed a nice dinner at the coffee shop.
I played Pai Gow the first night and could se it was going to be no different than in Vegas. Played a lot of live poker and a good deal of Video poker. Sat down at a triple play nickel mnachine late one night while waiting for Patti. Ran 100 credits up to 2,400 on deuces wild. Four deuces twice and one wild royal. Other days I hit the deuces twice on quarter machines. They have full pay deuces and double bonus as well as JOB. IN addition, MOnday and Tuesday are triple points days.
Drove up to Zion on Friday, really pretty.
Between comps from the poker room and our friend at the slot desk, we paid $67 for our entire stay (6 nights) including massages, golf and all our meals.
Flight home was OK. Food wasn't as good as going out and the flight attendant was kind of surly. Didn't seem to like people drinking. Asked me one time if I wanted something ELSE to drink. Asked for a cup of coffee late in the flight, it was cold.
Arrive in Columbus 30 minutes late to a typical cold, rainy evening. At least OSU had won .

JM: The Cadillac was beautiful. Well worth the few extra bucks, that's for sure. Oh yes...the Harley was beautiful too.

Let's see...black chip bets for 4 hours a day, otherwise $105 a day? The $105 is a bargain! What was that type of room called? Was it called an Executive Room? That was a very nice north Strip view you had.

Thanks for Primm, the Redwood meeting, and for the Mesquite invitation. I liked the gambling out there, and it is a good place to go if you want a rest. Whatta deal with those $67 charges.

We came home to cool weather too, but now it's back to summer again here.

A couple things I forgot.
Drove back into Vegas one night for a night on the town with Randy and Kelly. Did the touristy stuff. I hadn't seen the Venetian or Paris. The venetian is beautiful outside. Like Paris much more than the Venetain. We walked across the street so Patti could see the water show at Bellagio. Of all the elevated crosswalks, I hadn't noticed that the Bellagio is the only one that terminates you INSIDE the hotel.
We went to the Fiesta for Mexican at Guardinos <sp>. Had 3 comps that included an appetizer, and entree and a desert. The 3 appetizers were almost enough for the 4 of us. Randy and Kelly ended up taking home 4 or 5 boxes of food. Of course we saved room for fried ice cream .

I learned the fine art of bribery this trip. Also learned that although I enjoy the big get togethers, it's really nice to get together in smaller groups where you can get to know people a little better. I hope I have the opportunity to do that with more people in the near future.

V,
The Caddy was a great deal. Thank YOU for suggesting I try National and the Emerald club. I'm sure I'll rent more bikes on future trips. Maybe we can set a new speed record the next time .

You're correct, the guy at check-in called our room an Executive Suite. You're also right about the rate vs getting comped. I beat myself up for a couple days for playing the way I did which I know was partly in the hopes of getting the room comped. I know better than that and could have stayed there my whole trip for what I lost .

Glad you enjoyed Mesquite. Our friend comped our first 4 nights using 'birthday' letters we had received which were both expired. The other 2 nights were comped by the poker room. And that wasn't because I played alot. It was just the opposite. The games always seemed to break up within a few hours of my sitting down to play. The manager apologized for there not being better games and asked if I was staying there so he could take care of my room. The poker room is also good with food comps. I ended up giving my friend at the slot desk some unused dinner comps from the poker room.

Jeff, It was great to see you and Patti again.
WOW!!! 4 hours of blackchip for a room comp. Who do they think they are, the Rio?<G>
If I get a surly flight attendant I will get their name and write a letter complaining about them. I received 2 free airline tickets this way from Continental. I make sure to note the flight number also.
We missed you last Sat after the OSU game. It was a good game but we got soaked.
Next time we're in CBUS we have to get together.
Thanks for the report. Sorry Pai Gow wasn't good to you. Maybe next time.

Nice trip report. I know what you mean about "overplaying" in hopes of a room comp or something. I think all of us have done that at one time or another. Seems like just paying casino rate is much cheaper than a comped room <g>.

John,

I wish I'd have known you were going to be in town. You could have picked us up at the airport .

I was thinking of writing a letter about the Flight attendant. You've convinced me I should. I'd settle for a couple free upgrades.

Gregg,

I really played at the same level I usually do, I just should have quit sooner when I saw the way my luck was running. I did get one night comped in April and I certainly didn't give them 4 hours/day of black chip.

Senator,
Another great trip report. It was great to see you and Patti again. Thanks for inviting us to join the dinner at the Redwood. We really enjoyed ourselves. Sounds like you had a great time in Mesquite. Maybe we will have to take a drive out there next time.

Jeff - Thanks for the excellent trip report as usual. Sure was good to finally meet Patty. Just wish we would have had more time to chat.

Sounds like you had a pretty good trip. Renting Caddy's and Harley's. But of course, only our member's of Senate are allowed to do that.

Thanks again for the report. Hope to see you soon. Remember, if you ever make it to Caesar's in Indiana, I will be your official tour guide.

PS - They have a poker room and Pai Gow.

Jeff,

Thanks for the trip report. You must be the first person to report on renting a Harley and riding it around LV. Would you stay at the Mandalay Bay in the future? We heard that they were robbed recently. We too prefer to meet with smaller groups. At some of the larger group meetings we attended we did not talk to several people.

Doye,

I'm sure I'll make it to Indiana before too long. I'll be sure to let you know.

Fred,

Actually, this is my second Harley rental. Rented one in April and rode it to Mt. Charleston and Red Rock. I probably wouldn't stay at Mandalay bay when going by myself. I rarely use the pool when there alone and don't spend that much time in the room. If taking Patti or other people I thought would enjoy staying somewhere really nice, this would be my number 1 pick. There was a lot of discussion going on as to if you and Beth would pop in to the TV met. Sorry you couldn't make it.

Jeff,
Well, I'm so glad i'm not the olny one that got killed at the Pia Gow tables! Missary loves company...you know!
I feel bad that the motorcycle rental thing fell through with us. It even chaffed me a little more hearing about the good time and where you went on the bike. Sue was just not up for it on a short trip. I was extremly jelious that you where able to go and I had to stay on the porch.

Thanks for the great report....and rubbing my nose in it one more time <g>

Ok, so how far away is this Mesquite place and is it hard to find? If I ask the hotel for directions, will they have heard of it?

Jeff, I'm glad to hear you hit the deuces out at Mesquite ....sure wish we could have kept up the "dueling quads" act when we sat at opposite ends of the double double bonus section!

Jeff; Thanks for the nice trip report. We have a little over 40,000 America West miles to use in May for an upgrade, and then I will start using National with the $90.00 upgrade.
It was nice seeing you again, and meeting Patti. Wish we could have talked more. Like you mentioned at small meet you can get to know people, not just who they are by sight.
The bike looked great, that will be a must on a future trip! A few years ago we had the Sunday Brunch at Gardunos and enjoyed it very much. Each trip I say that we are going to Gardunos for dinner, but some how always end up in the Fiesta Buffet (IMO the best in L.V.).

Lee,

Mesquite's real easy to find. Just get on the freeway behind the strip and keep going till you see Mesquite. It's kind of like Primm, you can't miss it. It's about an hour drive.
May have had a problem if we both had bikes since the one got wrecked I think I got the last one.

John,

You'll enjoy the bike, try it some time. Personally, I prefer the buffet at Texas to Fiesta. The fiesta has good food but I've always had lousy service there.

Daisy,

I tried those BD machine a few other times and could never hit any more qauds. Did you use all your points when you checked out? They didn't take any of our. I think we've got about 3,000. I asked and they stay there 18 months.

Jeff,
You know, I never thought of the wreaked one. Maybe things did work out after all? Riding a motorcycle in the desert is still on my things to do list. I noticed the temps dropping the last couple of days. By November, it's going to be too chilly I'm afraid.

Senator,

I knew there was a reason we get along so well! I've been dying to get a Harley for years and I think I may have to rent one on the next visit!

It sounds like you and Patti had a dandy time despite the losing sessions! I certainly hope I will finally have an October free to come on down to LV and Mesquite w/the two of you. It would be nice to have a nice cigar by the pool w/ya!

WB

PS Will be celebrating the closing of my show w/a nice Romeo y` Juliet Robusto today! Absolute heaven!!!!

WB,

Enjoy the cigar. I had many at the pool in Mesquite. They wouldn't let me smoke IN the pool this year. Last eyar I would take my newspaper, cigar, and ashtray and stand in the pool with all my stuff sitting on the cement and read the paper.

The bike was a blast. I'm sure you'd enjoy it.

Jeff, I'm gonna yell about discrimination... they used my points! Seriously, you know I was happy to have enough points in the first place; I think it was 900 points for the room and 125 for the buffet ...which left me a grand total somewhere in the 300 range.
