oct. 14th to 17th part III
oct. 14th to 17th part III
Wednesday Oct 16th

Got up early again. Took bus over to Orleans to see what hotel was like based on many positive things I have heard about it. It sure seems like they want your business as got many free gifts just for getting players cards (even gave us extra mug for our 3rd child, nice touch). Had breakfest here which was very good. Played for a bit then took shuttle to Babary Coast. Took Bellagio tram to Monte Carlo then did lunch at New York New York. Went back to Luxor to gamble a bit and take a rest. Tonight was last night in Vegas so were doing dinner and show, have to finish it up right. Made reservations at Luxor steakhouse for 5:30 PM. Was that a nice meal. Reminded me of Mannys here in Minneapolis. Menu is ala carte, most things ordered seperately. Stuck with just the steak, salad and potato and that was plenty. Our server, James, was most excellent, I recommend him to anyone who goes there. After dinner, gambled for a few minutes then caught bus to Stardust -- we were off to see Wayne Newton. Show lasted over 2 hours. Felt sorry for Wayne as he cannot hit the high notes anymore but he sure puts all his energy into it. I thought 20 years together was something, one couple there were at 63 and counting. One of the backup singers does impressions and would not be surprised to see him have his own show someday, quite good. Im glad I followed your recommendations to see the show. About 10:30PM by the time we got outta show so just caught bus back to hotel. Decided to gamble a bit more when we got back. I love playing Munsters slot machine back home but had no luck on it at Luxor. Found Munsters machine on Tuesday that I had a bit of luck on so I headed for that when we got back. Dropped 10.00 in and started spinning. Usually play all 9 lines with 2 coins. Did for a bit with an occasional max bet. Well, hit max bet, and up pops 5 granpa munsters. Yahoo, 2500 coins for him along with 400 more to a nice 2900 winner (sadly, only nickels but still 150 or so). HIt the cash out and while I waited I tried to play Texas Oil machine next to me. Tried to put in my money but would not take it??????.. I look up at the screen to see whats up. The gentleman sitting next to me had walked away with screen on bonus round (as Herman says..darn darn darn).. i hit the wells and a nice 575 coin winner. Ok, now the dilema, I want to go back to Munsters and now I have Texas Oil rolling, what to dooo. Lady comes back with my handpay and I ask her to watch machines while I go get my wife so she can play one for me. I find her in record time and we both head back to machines. I played Munsters a bit longer with no luck, but the Mrs is running her's up and up and up. She closes in on $100 and we try to decide when to quit. Starts to slip and cash out at $74. Not huge money but nice finish to gambling for trip on last night (who was that stranger, I need to thank him for the free money).

All in all, a very nice trip. True, we did more exploring than gambling but then again, that was part of the reason for the trip. Still hard to believe the amount of walking you can do even with trams, busses, taxis, bicyles, etc (tuesday her pedometer read 22,900 steps). I cant wait till March when I get to go again (heck, Im trying to figure out way I can come in November).

Daniel,

Thanks for the great report and congrats on your 20th!

You sure covered some territory. After all the places you saw, where are you going to stay next? Will the Orleans be a consideration?

Was there a long wait for teh Eifel Tower?

The wait for the eiffel tower was none....in fact, they were waving us come on ahead as we were crossing the bridge that takes you to the elevator. We got there around 7:30 PM if I recall correctly. As far as March, I'm recommending to our gang to stay at Orleans the 1st four nights at least, then move to strip hotel for last 3 nights (Treasure Island most likely). I'm still dreaming of making it for your November meeting, I think I owe at least Lee and Wendell a drink for all their tidbits. smile

Daniel:

Enjoyed your report. Sounds like the two of you had a great time. I think you'll like the Orleans if you decide to stay there.

Did you check out downtown? A couple nights there we found is a lot of fun. We've stayed at the Golden Nugget which is very nice.

Daniel,
Glad we could offer some help, your great trip report is thanks enough! smile
We'd love to see you in November, the more the merrier!
Nice win on the Munster machine and the Texas tea too. I like the nickel machines, but you can loose quickly at max bet all the time.
When you had breakfast at the orleans was it at the Buffet or coffee shop?
Glad you had a great time and thank you so much for sharing your great trip to LV, with us all here on talkvegas!
Great report to match, BTW! laugh

Lee, breakfest was at the Courtyard Cafe. We did not hit any buffets on this trip, really were never hungry enough to justify doing one. Just had a 94.50 round trip rate on MLT charter available till 8:00 PM last night, tried to get my dad to go with me in November but no luck. Brenda has given me green light to go Thanksgiving week as I have week off she and kids have work/school till Wednesday anyway. Im just trying to find someone to go with and I will be there.

Ms Susan, based on what we saw of Orleans, we think we will like it too. In fact, met with our group going out in March tonight and they agreed, Ill be booking Orleans for 7 nights sometime tomorrow. We have our airline booked with America West at 175/person. Would be nice to do direct flight but NWA would not come down to match or get close enough to justify using them -- so sad.
