Excalibur?
  Excalibur?
Hi all,
There is a chance that my hubby and I may get to go to LV the 7th-10th of October. So I've done some preliminary checking around and found a great price for the Excalibur. Has anyone stayed there or have any thoughts on this place?
If this trip is approved my husband will be attending the Printers Convention. This will be our first time to LV, so we don't have any previous slot club play or anything. Can you all recommend a few places for me to try to get a reservation at? Price will be a factor as anything beyond the company limit of $100 or so will be ours.
Thanks to you all in advance, you're all a great bunch of people!

Patty, could you give us a little more info?
Specifically, where is the convention and will you have a car available? Since this is your first trip, do you want to stay really close to the convention hotel or on the strip?

Hi there,
Yes, we would have a rental car. The convention is in the Convention Center. It isn't like my husband would have to be at the convention at any certain time, so I don't think it would matter where we stayed as long as the price was right.

Patty,

We have stayed at the ExCalibur six+ times. We like the location and the price. I would suggest that you ask for a room in tower 2. We have found the rooms to be comparable with most places on the strip. Cars can be rented through Dollar at the ExCalibur. If you use the CAT buses, get them across the street at the Tropicana instead of the MGM. Free shuttles to various places leave from the Tropicana and the San Remo. If you need more details on transportation check with Beth in the "Transportation Forum". THey also have an Express Checkin that makes check=in a snap. When I get the number, I will place it here. What time is your plane expected to land? Have a good, safe trip.

Just to add to Fred's comments, Tower Two is closer to the parking lot. We have stayed there a few times and found it to be OK. in the summer it's over-run with rug rats but that shouldn't be a problem in Oct. We also call ahead and request the highest floor aval. for a nice view. My overall opion is that the Excal. is a good value (Last time we stayed there was four years ago)

Patty, since this is your first trip, I think location is more important than the hotel itself. You will spend very little time in your room. There is so much to see and do, you need to be in a convenient location. The Excaliber is in a good location. You can walk to a lot of the nearby properties. You can take advantage of the monorail that runs from the MGM to Ballys and the one that runs from Monte Carlo to Bellagio. Then you can walk to Caesars, Mirage, Treasure Island, Harrahs and Venetian.
I think that the Excalibur will do fine. It is not fancy, but it is ok. I have never had any luck eating there. The buffet was poor and so was every other meal I have had there. But there are lots of places to eat, so that should not be a concern.
Good luck and have fun.

Patty, I checked rates at some of my favorite places (and I'm glad I no longer go on weekends<g> ).
The Orleans offers standard rates of $59/$69 on the 7th & 8th, and I like this location. The rooms are nice, and although it is off the strip, they do have shuttles running to the corner of Flamingo & Las Vegas Blvd every 20 minutes. Also, they have good restaurant choices, a good selection of video poker, slots & table games. Unfortunately, the rate goes up to $149 on the weekend.
The best weekend rates I could find were downtown, Fitzgerald's Holiday Inn had a rate of $69. I haven't stayed there, but I understand it's pretty basic Holiday Inn style. The Golden Nugget has a rate of $109 for that weekend, and the GN is extremely nice!
Since this will be your first visit, I'm sure we'd all be happy to supply you with sightseeing ideas that would fill up a 2-week timetable.

Thank you all so much for all your input and info! Now if only the boss would say, "Go" I could finalize things. The Excalibur had a Special including a bunch of stuff and it wouldn't be over the company "budget". I'll bet the boss doesn't go on a "budget".
Fred, we don't have the go-ahead yet, but hopefully soon. Daisy, I don't have 2 WEEKS, only 2 days!!
Thanks everyone

Patty,
We stayed their our first couple times there. Never had a problem. Only problem is kids during the summer months. Food in buffet was not great (that was 6/7 yrs ago, so don't know if they've improved since then...but you can always go somewhere else to eat.

At Excalibur, there's always Krispy Kreme Donuts or The Nitro Grill with the WCW (World Championship Wrestling) theme.
