I need to take my laptop to Vegas with me in October. Will it be safe in the room?

Mike, I have taken my laptop on the last few trips to Las Vegas. If you have a safe in your room, and the laptop will fit, then you can lock it up and be pretty sure that it will be ok. Keep in mind that the safes are not totally secure and can be opened by someone with the proper electronic device. However, the chances of someone breaking into your room and robbing your safe are remote unless you are known to have LOTS of cash and jewelry on hand.
If the laptop won't fit into the safe, you can lock it in a piece of luggage. While that isn't too secure, it would deter a maid or hotel employee from picking up a laptop that was just sitting out in the open room for them.
Record the make, model, and serial number before you leave from home. Also, check with your insurnace agent. You may be able to insure the laptop for a few dollars and then if it was stolen it would be replaced.
I've never had a problem, but you can't be too cautious.

Mike, I've taken my laptops with me on various Vegas trips since before the Dunes was imploded, and I've had it with me when staying at all kinds of Vegas hotels from the Plaza to Bellagio. I've done everything from cleverly hiding it to leaving it out on the desk, fully hooked up to AC power and the modem connected. I've never had a problem. I agree with John, and would urge you to use good judgement. I'm not so much worried about the maid taking it as I am about the various maintenance workers, inspectors, turn down service people, and whoever else might want to pop in unexpectedly.
