Jeff, Thanks for the report. I had an aborted landing on Continental recently and one other in the past year. I've also heard of two other incidents from other flyers. What's going on? I only had one aborted landing in my life before last year. Now it seems commonplace.

Hey JMT,

Can you ballpark what it costs for a commercial jet to "go around"? I don't know how much fuel those things burn in a climb situation like that but it's got to be a bunch.

Ballpark...maybe about $1000 in fuel. There are almost a gazillion variables, including type of aircraft, number of engines, type of approach, other air traffic, weight of aircraft, flap settings, cost of jet fuel, etc.

A quickie circle back to land in good weather might be much cheaper. A full departure getting back in line to make another approach might be 2 or 3 times more.

This was an A320, not real full pasanger wise. He didn't seem to have to go far out and get in line. We climbed out making a big turn to the right. Flew downwind for just a few miles, made another big turn and a fast, steep approach.

Jeff - Thanks for the TR - you really made me hungry with all your meal descriptions! I need to get back to Vegas soon - reading your TR gave me "the itch" again! --Mike

Mike,

I never have enough time on my Vegas trip to eat every place I'd like to. I noticed a new, free standing BBQ place in front of Green Valley Ranch. When I was walking in I could smell the garlic from the chinese restaurant and the BBQ smell from this place, I almost had an xxxxxx! eek

I hope somebody tries this BBQ place and posts a report.

Lee, you are right that I love BBQ. But, you'll understand why I won't be trying it on this trip when you see me.
Three times before I have been on a diet and lost weight only to take a trip to Las Vegas and blow the diet and put the weight back on. NOT THIS TIME!! But I will check the place out and see if I might get a sample to see what the flavors are like. I have a line on a local's bar that I am told has better ribs than Tommy Rockers. I want to sample that place also. But this time I am not blowing my diet.
Tomorrow is the last day of work for me and then it is off to the lake for the weekend and then off to Las Vegas on Monday. So I might not be back on the bb very much, if at all after tomorrow night. See Ya in Las Vegas!

Jeff - If you're going to be in LV at Thanksgiving time, let's plan another "pig out" lunch similar to what we did at Schoop's last year. Maybe we could try the BBQ place at GVR?" -- Mike

Sorry, Jeff, I never replied. I have no idea about the Strawberry Shortcake.............we've been trying to trod the straight and narrow with Atkins for the last year, and I have to close my eyes and THROW menus back before I check out the last page............ smile

Tater, how are you doing with Atkins? I used a modified version, using a lot of chicken and fish instead of beef and pork and using egg substitues and it has been great.

Mike,

Thanksgiving week is in my plans so lets shoot for lunch at this BBQ place. I'll look forward to seeing your big suite again too!

I'll need to be home for Thanksgiving so my trip will probably be Sunday or Monday until Wednesday.

Hi John,
We went great guns at first..........Toby lost about 50 lbs, and I lost about 40, but we've been treading water lately............have to figure out what we're doing. PERHAPS we have found too many good low carb goodies...........back to the drawing board! smile Glad you've had such good luck.........and to keep sort of on topic, we're looking forward to Wendell's TR, too. Talked to Daisy yesterday, and she said she's having a bit of a prob with her computer, so Escapades may be awhile..................she's concentrating on her VP instead!!! smile

LOL, Senator....

I was hoping you hadn't noticed my lack of TR!

No real excuse....I hope to get something written up this week but I've had a really busy 4th. I'll try to get it done after my friend's wedding this weekend!
