I'll post a couple of hotels and whether you have ever stayed in them or gambled in them or just walked by them, what comes to mind when you hear that hotels name? Remember this is just an opinion or a precived feeling or thought. #2a. Treasure Island #2b. Golden Nugget #2c. Westward Ho Mine first.....LOL 2a. Probably the most liked of the Wynn properties on the strip, for me. But I rarely venture across the street. Clean, comfortable, if they'd only not have so many kids inside. 2b. Class of downtown, the Tempory slot card that only reads dollar play is my one knock against the place. Coffee Shop is very good. 38 brands of beer bar is also a nice place to sample a few odd beers. 2c. Has a strange smell, can't put my finger on it. Old, corny, not visited for many trips. Would probabl stay anywhere else but here. ------------------ Lee-PA Moderator, What's New Forum lee@talkvegas.com

Lee, when I think of Treasure Island, I think of a beautiful suite, delicious food, pretty good luck on the gambling scene and less crowds. I always enjoy staying there and have never found one thing I didn't like about it. We go to LV as a weekend away from kids, and even with the pirate them, I've never TI to have more kids than other places. I especially like the convenient layout of the facility, i.e. walking from the parking lot to the rooms, navigating the casino, etc.
Golden Nugget is the spot where we had our best run of blackjack ever, but we were never able to repeat it.
Westward Ho, never been.

Lee,
Treasure Island - As you already are aware, Treasure Island is my Hotel/Casino of choice. I like the layout, the staff, and the comps they offer. The location, in the middle of the strip, great, too.
Golden Nugget - I agree with your assessment. It's the class place downtown
Westward Ho - This place should soon qualify as a historical landmark! I've never stayed there, so am not qualified to comment, but it is favored by a lot of tours.
Dick - So. Calif.

Lee,
Here goes:
Treasure Island -- Never really got into it, though I have no problems with the place. Ate once at the restaurant overlooking the pirate battle with my brother's family, and had a nice meal. Never gambled there, but have been there twice to see Mystere.
Golden Nugget -- Nicest hotel/casino downtown, which probably is why I haven't done much playing there. When I go downtown, I like to gamble at the "sloppier" places, to get that "wild west" feel (e.g., Golden Gate; Four Queens; Binions). Friend of mine lost her glasses there last trip; she was lucky -- I lost my shirt (g).
Westward Ho -- Very nice memory. First trip to Las Vegas, 1992 or 93, staying at the Riviera. Went over to the Westward Ho to have a few .99 margaritas with a friend. Lounge act, I think a husband/wife singing duo, doing the typical Las Vegas cover tunes. I really enjoyed it, as it seemed like real Las Vegas to me at the time.

Okay, here goes, but it wont be popular...
2a Treasure Island. It's like the Mirage with kids everywhere. Same boring layout as other Wynn properties where the elevators are in the middle and the front desk is in the front, meaning you gotta drag bags all over the casino. Ate there twice in the early days, and was very disappointed. It's a long walk to an extremely basic room. It has way too many onlookers and a hokey theme. On positive notes, it has a great show in Mystere. The parking garage is a pretty good layout for a strip parking garage. One third of the rooms have a nice view of the Venetian. I've had some good margaritas there. It's a place that I only go to for Mystere, and can't think of any other reason to visit.
2b. Golden Nugget. It is the class joint of the downtown, and would probably be the class joint of the strip if it were on the strip. They keep the place clean. The dollar slot club keeps the nickel players at Sassy Sallys, and that's okay with me!!! I like all of the bars. The remodel of the rooms in shades of brown was very disappointing. They have a great frequent stay club called Private Arrangement, and I have about 20 free nights earned, that I might never use because I can't stand the FSE. It's hard to tell that it's a Wynn property, and I like that. All food is very good, none of it is great. I feel very comfortable there.
2c. Westward Ho, the butt of all jokes because it took them years to earn that reputation. Still, it's a classic. Unfortunately, it's about 10 years past the soap and water refurb, and probably beyond repair. I believe at one time it was the largest Motel in the world...and might still be. It's too close to Slots A Fun, which is too close to Circus Circus, so it gets a lot of undesireables. I would never plan to stay there, but it would be higher priority over Treasure Island, LV Hilton, MGM, Circus, Excalibur, and other kiddie resorts.
Sorry folks, if I gave your favorite a bum rap. Don't take it personal. It's only my opinion of the place.

1. Have been to TI for Mystere which we enjoyed very much. I wouldn't go again because circus acts aren't really for me but I would recommend it as one of the best shows in LV. Have eaten in the Buccaneer Restaurant and have seen the Pirate Show from the dinner table. Very good food and service. Not inexpensive and would eat there again. Gambled very little there on the VP machines and don't remember doing any winning. 2. Nicest casino downtown for tourists who like nice, clean, strip-like casino. Have never won anything in this place. Enjoy the California Kitchen when I'm in the mood for an Oriental Salad. Service has always been very good here. 3. Westward Ho, well, I've never been in the place before and I know I *must* try this place someday <bg>. ------------------ gail@talkvegas.com Moderator, TalkVegas After Hours Administrator, TalkVegas BB

TI--I always considered it a place with a lot of kids, but I have never seen that many there. I love Mystere. Also, the parking garage is set up well and we find our way around the casino fairly easily. GN--I have never spent much time there. The casino seems nice but the slot club isn't very good. Westward Ho--The first place Linda and I ever stayed in Las Vegas, many, many , many years ago. That was the first time and the last! ------------------ John Moderator Dining Forum john@talkvegas.com

2a. T.I. – Never stayed there, but I don’t have any objection to trying it, based on it’s being a Mirage Resort hotel, so I’m assuming quality and service are good. I’ve never eaten there, have gambled very little there, and yet continue to receive room offers. I don’t recall seeing as many kids there as at Excalibur or MGM, but then I probably haven’t been in T.I. for a few years now.
2b. G.N. – Love the hotel and the casino, like the rooms, have stayed there many times. It’s easy to avoid trying to join their slot club since food comps are very easy to get, their room rates are very reasonable, and belonging to their Private Arrangement frequent-stay program gets free nights—and no gambling obligation. Another Mirage Resort that offers quality and good service. Their casino seems smoky now, once the new Strip hotels opened with their state-of-the-art smoke-removal systems.
2c. W.H. – Never been inside and see no reason to. Only association I’ve had with the place was when Jeff pulled up along side my rental car while we were both driving down Industrial and handed me some Westward Ho bingo cards and other assorted W.H. junk he wanted to dump!
