Today (Saturday if you are keeping track...)was the day Kes and I decided to leave town and head towards Hoover Dam. After a fairly early rising, we loaded up the car - ok...water an camera - and headed for Breakfast at Ellis Island! I had country fried steak/eggs, Kes actually had a pork chop (?)/eggs, both very nicely done, both incredibly huge portions, and both insanely cheap!
Enjoying the exotic (for me) desert mountains on the way, and noticing how DRY it was....
The dam was definitely a highlight of the trip - the tour that takes you down, down int the various tunnels and the generators was great with helpful, friendly guides. Nice people to talk to also! After the tour, we took the walk through the museum, and walked out to the dam itself. I have to admit that I am pretty jaded usually (and Kes can certainly attest to that!), but even I was awed by the majesty of this structure! Walking along the rim, and looking down, even made this New Yorker a little dizzy! Walked across into Arizona, just long enough to say I was there, and not long enough for ANOTHER time change to screw me up! We walked up to the one shop, and realized we were both bone dry! We actually bought Gatorade to help rehydrate us! I bought several souvenirs and we walked back to the car, to head back to town.
On the way back, both Kes and I really noticed the 'cloud' that hangs over LV - kind of scary actually...
Are original plans were to stop into MGM, and walk around there and then perhaps head back up to the IP fr Legends -wellll...a MOB around the MGM, and valet was closed except for guests, as we were not aware it was Barbra Streisand Night at the MGM. So we started CRAWLING up the Strip...inching our way up, when Kes did the 'turn right somewhere, so we can slip up Korval' thing...eventually we made it back to the IP - coming in the valet area from the back! We went up and bought our Legends tickets, and then changed for the evening....
