Well I've read how some of you don't really like the Trop. but we've always been treated well there.
This was our second stay with them and again, we recieved great service from their staff. Upon check in we were asked if we would like to upgrade from the garden room we had booked to the Island tower for $10 more per night. Since this was less expensive than it would have been when we booked on the internet I said sure. Wow what an upgrade. For $39/night weeknight and $69 on Friday we were put in a 19th floor mini suite. The view was great and the room was huge. It was a smoking room and we are both non smokers but neither of us could smell any smoke. The only sign of smokers was a cigarette burn on the garden tub in the bathroom. Windows had small ledges were we could sit a night an stare at the strip for a few minutes before going to sleep.
Maid service was good and all of the hotel staff treated us well. I have no complaints about the Tropicana's rooms or service.

As I said this was our second stay here. On our first stay we were upgraded from a garden room to the Paradise tower with out even asking. I really do like this resort and it's location. For us, it has been a great bargain.

Doug,
I've had one of those rooms you've discribed at the Trop. If all that was worn was one cig. burn, you where lucky.
The location of the hotel is a good one, but Sue and I will not stay there again. BTW, don't know if you had a chance to use the Trop's Valet, but a $2 tip keeps the car close and is one of the fastest valets in Vegas. The guys/gals really hustle.

Lee,

You let our secret out! I always use the Trop valet if I'm visiting MGM. It's actually closer to the front of the MGM than their own valet and the Trop always seems to get your car to you in a hurry! I rate them, Orleans, and Sahara as the best valets.

At the Sahara an extra buck will get your car "up top" if they aren't too busy. And when they "really" aren't busy, they'll ask how long you're staying and will automatically put it up top if it's not too long. And even if your car goes to the regular garage it usually comes out very quick. The problem is finding many reasons to actually visit the Sahara!

Doug, back in the late 70's and early 80's I stayed at the Trop all the time. I always found the staff to be very good. The problem with the Trop came about when they did not do any remodeling and the rooms got pretty grundgy. They went through a period of time where they let the entire place go down hill. Most people left them at that point and they did not do anything to win them back. I know the place has improved and if you can get a rate of $39 it is a good deal. The location is very good. I guess I just left there in the early 80's and never went back.

Randy,
The orleans IMO is a zoo when it comes to Valet. Care to share your secret? In the winter months we freeze out by the benches waiting for them to bring the car around.

Lee,

I have no secret. It's always been quick service for me. Last time I watched the guy "run" all the way to get my car. I do wait the couple of minutes in the doorway of the casino so I don't have to freeze waiting for the car.
